I have a problem tryina start my 2tg, want to know if anyone can tell me what the problem is if you have fuel in both your carbs, but one doesnt want to pump fuel and the other does? Basiclly, you can tell if your accelerator pumps have fuel in them by pumping the accelerator pumps by hand, you can hear the fuel being sqwished around in there, but when its bone dry its very stiff and you can hear a distinctive "dry" sound. has this happened to anyone? it is strange because i had the car running perfectly yesterday, so need some assistance asap in fixing this problem as i need to use the car this weekend..
thanks.

yes it runs, but only on 2 cylinders which is supplied by the front carb, cylinder 3 and 4 dont respond at all, i had it running today and i took the leads off 3 and 4 and it was still running the same so i know its the back carb that doesnt want to work, pulled the top of the carb off that isnt working, found out the pump check valves were jammed, so i cleaned them out and now fuel comes up from them which is good.. but when i put the carb back on to test it, it was still running on the same 2 cylinders so i dont know whats goin on there.

Hi,
I have the Toyota Worskhop Manual with the 2T-G engine in it, including the carbs, along with exploded views. This is for the early solex 2T-G, not 2TGU or anything else.
Can you swap the carbs around to see if the problem foloows the carbs, or are you dead certain it's the carbs?
They're dual carb units, but share the float and some other items. So, I'd start looking there.

Go buy a can of throttle body cleaner and clean all the galleries out, failing that check your compressions to make sure that the carby hasnt glazed up the bores by running too lean, i know its a long shot but you never know your luck in the big city .

river, yes i have the same manual, but unfortunatly doesnt cover the solexs i have on at the moment, those in the book are the SOLEX PHH 40s TYPE 3, the ones i have at the moment are SOLEX PPH 40s..
i cant swap the carbs around because i dont think it is possible with the way the carb is designed and my linkage setup will give me problems, changing around the gear to suit..
it runs very rough, so im gonna try replacing leads n plugs on just cylinder 3 and 4 sometime this weekend see if that changes anything.
Jason, i have been playing around in throttle body cleaner all day lol, took both carbs off n sprayed inside em, it only freed up the pump check valves, although i didnt take the jets out when doing this.. and i need to get a hold of a compression tester, i know compression is good but i need a actual reading to tell me how good it is.
thanks guys.

Just a question: Are you sure its fuel related and not some stupid spark problem?
