18rgeu question...Timing setup Mon, 20 September 2004 09:40 Go to next message
How do u set the timing up. Ive got the crank at number 1 TDC. and also ill have the cams with the notches. Thats right isnt it? does it really matter where the oil pump cogs are pointing. They have nothing to do with the timing setup do they??? Solong as i have crank and cams right it should go shouldnt it or am i missing something?

Other than the dizzy positioning at 12 deg btdc I believe it should start, with a bit of adjustment on the dizzy as you crank.
thats my uderstanding of the 18rg.

18rg timing is 5deg below TDC, if this is done she should fire.

also makesure u have the leads in the rite firing order.. and the rotation the correct way. u might be sooo excited to get it running u might make an error in the timing.
and if you've just put the engine back together, you should wind it over slowly with a shifter if you havent already done so.

My main concern was with the oil pump shaft. does it matter where it goes?? so long as my crank and cams are right it should start??
