Why an RB25, I wonder? I know that they're more powerful than a 3SGTE, but would more power offset the inbalance?

RB25 is a big cast-iron inline six, so yes it's going to upset the weight balance considerably. Personally I'd prefer the 1JZ, it's cheaper and better and above all a Toyota engine.
But then again both options are pretty silly for an AE86; you can get more than enough power from a turbo 4-banger without turning it into a lead-tipped arrow.

What's there to look at if we look closer?
If ya wanted to look closer, you would have gone to Jamboree and saw that it was not allowed to run due to a water leak and was cuttin 12.5 sec passes previously

Norbie's right ... bloody fast in a quick line (11-12 sec at Jamboree over the weekend) and burns rubber however as a drift car at the last QR Drift Day, totally unbalanced ...

Isn't this car setup for drift? I have seen quite a few pics of it from drift events? Looks like a bit of a weapon alright!
I was annoyed that I didn't get to see it run at Jambo when it got that water leak

set up? i think not
weapon? in comparison to a 4ac yes it probably is.
sure it will oversteer and power slide nicely, but its never going to be as good as a balanced AE86

100% agreement from me.
balance is the key to a good drift car.
