airfilter options?

i have a pod filter sitting in my engine bay at the moment, and it has a bracket arm sorta mad up for it attaching it to the front strut brace on my AE82 twincam.
i dont wana get a BS defect and have to go through all the trouble of getting a RWC again.
so should i change it back to the original air filter and box setup, or make a box for the pod? has anyone else got any ideas how to go about makeing my air filter system roadworthy?

An exposed pod is a defect. It must be enclosed in an airbox to make it legal for emmissions. To avoid being defected for this the best thing is to put your standard airbox back and if you want a performance filter, get a K&N Panel filter for the airbox.
Better to do this rather than copping a big EPA fine.

does anyone know of another airbox i can adapt for my car? say if i got the airbox from a VL commodore or something, i could fit a bigger filter than what the standard box would take and reduce flow restriction? especially with a larger high flow filter!

What makes you think the standard airbox is a flow restriction at all?

VL commonwhore air box max dimensions are:
L = 290

not saying that the orginal box is restrictive, but a bigger air filter made the same way as a smaller one is gona have less restriction even still.

ok... pod filters are sh!t... sorry.. to you ricer boys who think the induction acoustics are cool, when you get eaten up it doesn't really matter what you sound like...
Factory air boxes will ALWAYS outperform any aftermarket pod... my rally car runs a unifilter panel filter, but only because it's driven on dirt, and paper filters clog too easy... the best you can do: use standard airbox, use high performance panel filter, and run a cold air feed using kopex tubing... (NOT AG PIPE )

this isnt the same for carbied motors is it? ive got ram-flo filter on my 2TG and they arn't in any sort of airbox or housing. ive never seen any that were, except for custom cold air setups. i also noticed that in original form the 2TGs seem to have a cold air setup which sort of includes an airbox thing. does this mean im gonna get fined too?

Generally a lampshade will only get you a defect, unless you REALLY deserve to be sent to the cleaners!
