800 Euro about $1500A. It is a proposition but would have to be fumigated and rodent proof. As I said where in the world would you find a GT2000? There are lots of spare Aussie parts available, some Celicas like that model sell for less than $1000 here you could easily swap alll the bits over into a Right Hand drive unit. The GT has all the trick bits, LSD, P51 gearbox, four wheel discs..

older cars like this are rare in western europe cos they put salt on the road to melt the black ice and the snow
ALSO when u combine this with the fact many 1970ies celicas were sold BRAND NEW WITH RUST in some areas due to the cheap recycled scrap metal that was used its surprising that this car has lasted aslong as it has

Restoring cars Thu, 23 September 2004 23:31 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Yeah it comes down to the basic issue do people want to take action and restore cars like this or leave them rust in peace. theer are too many look alikes made up with retro fit engines usually turbo just to go fast and faster. The older VINTAGE crowd are not much use either they wanna sit around and tour to the vineyards on a Sunday. Someone has to be proactive and recover these heaps and put them back into good condition and save them from teh crusher, if not the only place you wills ee them in next decade or two is in a museum like Birdwood. Even Birdwood I offerd them my GT and they said they need 3 months to decide if or not it has a significant pasrt of Australias motoring histoy, which was pretty sobering. They are right Twin Cam Toyotas and Turbo GoZillas have no part in Australian motoring history they are just grey imports and the few models you see left are all that remain world wide. $1.10 per litre fule contributes as well. $500 restored of high perforamnce models are few and far between. The GT Mustang market is top heavy saturated and over priced. So this GT LHD in France is rare as rocking horse poo. The froggy who owns it is short sighted and doesn't know what he has in his yard. The cost of hauling it out containerising it and shipping it to Aussie is not on..not worth it in the long run. Anyone want a left hand drive 280Z I know of one ona farm at Clare in SA for $2500??

Just out of interest, what export markets got Celica GT's?

I know the UK got them but given that Japanese cars were sold in tiny volumes in those days in most of Western Europe, especially in markets like France that had a high degree of protectionism, it is all the more remarkable that a GT of this vintage happens to be in France, unless it came from a Scandanvian country where I suspect a greater variety of models were marketed.
