AE86 Disc Brake Rear End and Brake Bias Wed, 25 September 2002 01:34 Go to next message
My 86 has a DB rear end.. but the standard aussie drum master cylinder and bias.

The rear brakes dont seem to be getting the pressure they should be... I noticed that the front brakes get really hot but the rears are only warm after a hard drive.

Does anyone know if the DB rear end bias differnt?

do the rear discs lock up on u easily?

when u convert from drum to discs in the back and not take out proportioning valve/bias valve the discs should lock up on u.

take out the proportioning valve or even just the spring in the valve and it should be fine.

this is from what i researched when i was going to put MA45 discs in the back of my celica, unfortunatly i never managed to compete this cause of money worries so best to wait for some more advice.

Yes, you need to gut the proportioning valve completely. I made the mistake of running a stock one with the disc rear end for years, and it just wouldn't stop very well at all.
Took it out, and it's all pretty good now.

Bill,
I'm just installing a disc brake rear on my AE86.
What exactly do you mean by "gut the proportioning valve"?
Thanks.

Strange but I don't have a brake proportioning valve - it did cross my mind but my brakes seem adequate for the moment, maybe because I got new rotors and metal king pads at the same time.

Am yet to really jam them on to see if the rears lock up first though ... Confused

So one would just unscrew the plug at the bottom, wait for everything to fall out, put the plug in again, bleed the brakes, and drive off into the sunset with eyeballs on the windscreen? Evil or Very Mad
