How sure are u man ?
so if my car does 10L/100km .... i should be able to go about 600 kms on a full tank !??
I DUNNO MAN !? I am sure my needle is stuffed, coz when it said i was on empty, i could only fill up 32 litres....meaning, it was only half empty when i filled it up...
ok... when does the fuel light flash on ? or does the RA65 even have a fuel light ??
how many km's can u drive when the light comes on (if there is one)

The RA23 is 58 litres and RA65 is 61. According to drive.com.au anyway. I thought the RA23 tank was more like 40 something litres.

the tank in my old RA60 was listed as 65 (i think), and i remember putting in at least 55-60. Of course, the RA65 will be different, being an EFI fuel tank

I was on target for nearly 700km out of my tank when I was driving my Celica down south. If only I hadn't regularily driven at speeds I shouldn't have (175kph loaded with air/con on ) I would've got a bit better than 8.9l/100km and who knows...

thought i might add that the 600 k's was all highway driving and I wouldn't advise trying to do it with city driving.

Yeah, on highway driving the 1G is supposed to be really good, Nark was saying how he got into the low 7l/100km range. Only on the highway you may be able to do it. Might start killing things like EFI fuel pumps if you try getting 700km on a city cycle though.

I take it that was highway driving? I don't think there'd be any chance of being able to do that in the city.

Damn the most I ever got into it was 38 litres. It ran out of fuel a couple of times after I did the conversion (gauges stopped working), but I never bothered filling it to the top to find out.

RA65 owners -
How much can i lower the car before it becomes undriveable ?? is 2 inches too much at the back ?
Im thinking something like 2" rear and 1" front ?? (my sump sits pretty low to the ground so i wouldnt lower more than 1"
What u guys reckon ?

I would have thought 2 inches is the minimum required amount of lowering for an RA65. Those things have more ground clearance than some 4WD's! I wouldn't bother lowering the front one inch, you'd hardly notice it. If your sump is really that close to the ground, I'd suggest your car has already been lowered or your springs are totally stuffed.

ive heard that the oil pickup is really close to the front of the ssump in 22REs? so if it is, be careful how low u make ur front, cos even mine, tho unlowered, had one BIG dint in the sump.

thats what i am worried about........
well, how much do you dare lower your car ... i.e. how much clearance would you want your sump to be from the ground ??and hell yes it look slike a 4wd !!!!!!

4wd style is still good.... gives that I-eat-gutters-daily drift look
Id say 1.5 inch? my 65 used to have low profile tyres on the front, and in the photo it looked pretty mean with that stance...

just remember the RA65s have semi-trailing arm rear suspension ... which means lowering the back gives lotsa camber to the rears (which means nicer cornering, shorter tire life)
and the manual states 61L for the tank, tho my guage shows near empty at 40L (although i know for a fact you can get 100km once the needle hits "E", at least)
and my 22R-E does more like 13L/100km cty driving, which is as much as a supercharged holed statesman, or XR6 that pisses me off

I would have thought you wouldn't want a lot of negative camber on the rear wheels, as you would be lacking more traction for braking and accelerating. Suppose its not a problem for something as slow as a RA65 though.

damit, that's just mean!
well, i wouldn't know, me not being an expert.... but i know the 300zx has a lot of camber on the rears ... and you'd think htey'd have a reason for that would give better acceleration out of the corners I'd think

Excessive camber on the rear wheels is usually a negative thing overall for handling. It is possible to lower an RA65/MA61 without suffering from excessive camber though - in a nutshell, you have to raise the rear subframe to compensate for the altered position of the wheels.
If you think about it, if you lower your car 3" the wheels are 3" higher (relative to the body). So if you move the subframe 3" higher, the suspension geometry will be exactly the same as it originally was! Hey presto, no more camber problems.
You can get an easy inch or so by removing the four big rubber bushes that insulate the subframe from the body, but beyond that you have to modify the subframe itself.

1) I agree with Norbie. Post a message to the OCC at www.celicas.org if you like. I wouldn't go further than ~1.5" or so with IRS. My car is lowered ~1" all round with King Springs, polly bushes in the front end and Monroe GTs and handles a lot better than stock. Lowering an inch makes the car look like it should have come that way to begin with. FWIW, the Eibach springs (discontinued) lower ~1", and I think thye know their stuff. Nark was able to lower 2" 'cos of his solid rear axcel.
2) 700 litres! Shit! Best I ever got was 440 mix of highway/city on a full tank, and that was just after I bought the car and it had been tuned&serviced, new sparks/coils etc etc. Lot more lead footed now. Tank is 61 litres.
3) Wayne, I didn't realise your 22RE was ported & had trick valves etc. Is that the engine that had been reconditioned? If you want $800 for the whole engine + loom, how much would you want for just the head and header? I'd be VERY interested. Wonder what shipping would be to Hobart...

i had a spare set of springs for my ra65 so i cut one of the coilds out on each spring.....which is stupid to do if you want to drive it as less coils=more pressure on remaining spring
this lowered the car about 3 inches it looked damn tough but the back wheels went psycho camber, a suspension joint i think it was midas ? said they can make it lowered three inches and make their own springs and adjustable shocks for about $400 just for the rear the front was $250
anyway im glad i never did it after reading what norbie said, it makes a lot of sense
i now have 15 inch wheels and just took out the rubber mounts, it makes small short grinding noises as go up driveways etc.
stefan i may think about seperating the head, i will probably sell the extractors seperatly
p.s. the car is painted again super red ...and the blood red pearl goes down over the top in a month when the paint is settled properly, my mate thinks it was painted before in acrylic paint but with two pack clear so it went shithouse, i need to get some decent bumpers then i will take some pics, the seats go in next week and the 3t-gte is ready just have to get a crossmember sent up from melbourne should be go ahead and down to the track for late september

I just sent you an email before I saw your reply here, Wayne. Car sounds like it's coming along well. If you're serious about springs, don't get Pedders to make you some, just buy some Kings ~1" drop ones for around $125 a pair. I think they're great. I'll have to take some more pics of my car now that it's lowered, cold air intake and Supra rims.
Fair enough about selling the extractors separarately, but if you decide to sell one or the other please tell me about it first!!!

My RA65 is 1cm lower at the back and 4cm's lower at the front, one problem I'm having is that I can't adjust the camber but I'll live. The wheels I'm running are 195R14 70 I find the the front tiers rubs a bit if I have four people in the car.
