broken flywheel bolts???

hi guys,
my car broke down today.
got it towed to my friends workshop, i strip the motor and gearbox.
found that the flywheel bolts had all broken off, snaped.
motor and gearbox not seized. what could have caused this??
i havent open engine as yet.will on Monday.
im rebuilding the motor with new rings and bearings. and dont want this to happend again.
the engine is a 4agte in mr2 aw11.
when the engine died i was on the freeway cruising at 110ks
please help.

did all the bolts break? impressive...
perhaps the wrong bolts used or they were improperly tightened (too much or too little torque) ... wrong kind of thread lube/locktite could also be a contributor.
any decent engineer should be able to remove the broken bolts and cleanup the threads once crank is out of engine.

I'm thinking something was pretty crook about the bolts.. However, I always use a new set of bolts every time I take the flywheel off my Sprinter; the idea of the flywheel parting company at 8500+rpm doesn't excite me much!

Mmm, especially when ARP 4AGE bolts can be had for as little as $30
