Me too! My regular mechanic called around a bunch of places and noone seemed to have a clue. We ended up sending the car to "CFS" (Carburation and Fuel Systems - 3398 7026) who are supposedly twin-cam/Solex experts, but even that didn't seem tuned quite right, so who knows.

They're at Cannon Hill. There's a cell phone number for them in the white pages so they do mobile services. Let me know if you do see them because if they're good maybe i should go back for a proper tune-up now my car is at least running again.

dont find someone who is a speacialist, find someone who used to own one
i found a mechanic down here who used to race them at bathurst
while its cost me alot everytime i break it (thought i bought a weapon for $2200 and i've now spent $2300 in mechanical reapirs )
if you intend on owning an ole twin cam expect it to need to be rebuilt before you start having fun with it
i've replaced ecu, wiring, distributor, all plugs and cables, radiator and hosing. the only things i havent done is actually rebuild the engine
once its completed she'll be good as new

tuning the old school engines is not that hard all you need to do is get hold of one of those original green manuals which Toyota sold for your model engine and they tell you everything if its a 18r then i can help with some problems I've played with these engines way before i even had my licence

i havnt takin it to any tuning shops yet, the only tuning that has been done to it has been by me and thats just getting it to run ok to drive to a shop, but i had it running perfect when i put these newer carbs on, just that when i turned it off and then turned it back on again it just started stuffing up.. ive tried changing the timing and still no difference its set on the manual specs 12deg BTDC.
ra_28, i have that exact manual your talking about, infact i have 4 different manuals and 2 that cover every bit of the 2TG but the carbs i have on at the moment are different to the ones that are displayed in the manual, so it doesnt help me much there..
cheers,

not yet, i found out what was making my engine run on 2cylinders, it was the carby not pumping fuel to cylinder 3 and 4, i replaced the accelerator pump on it and put my old carbs back on and now it works great, i just need to get it tuned now..
hows yours going? what does yours need just a tune?

Yeah it chokes a bit when i stand on the gas, especially when you first start it up. Not so bad after a while, but it's a pain when you're warming the engine up and it kinda sputters instead. I also am getting real close to needing a new gearbox, but that'll come sometime or other..

ive had the same problem, it gurgles when you give it too much foot, then it takes off.. the way i kinda stopped that was to set my base timing out a bit further than 12deg, and it goes away, well for me it did.. its all about adjusting the timing and then playing with your throttle, by pumping it to see if the response is any better or worse.. there is still just a touch of a flat spot but it doesnt gurgle when i give it everything i got.. although when i start mine up in the morning it doesnt like my accelerator very much, i give it 5mins to warm up and then muck about with it, i guess it just doesnt like the cold..

Thanks for the tip. It's weird because it's only started doing that the last couple weeks. I mean i've always been light on the pedal anyways because it's a carbie engine, but now sometimes it just gurgles away when i need to pull out of a side street and that's not cool. Hmm...
