cressy swaybar upgrade Wed, 25 September 2002 10:44 Go to next message
when i had the mx83 beast on the hoist the other day i noticed toyota had bent a coathanger the shape of a swaybar and mounted it to the rear of my car Very Happy what a joke Rolling Eyes main question is, if anyone has upgraded theirs, did you use the standard plastic swaybar link or have you upgraded to a custom metal one?

thanks Smile

This is one case where size doesn't really matter.
The bent coathanger works very well, I have never heard of it needing replacement.
If you want to stiffen things up just replace the rubber bush with neoprene. Remember it's IRS and doesn't need much in the way of roll stiffness from a sway bar.

Hey stevep...I noticed you have done the wheels up, did you stiffen suspension??? How is your baby cornering now? Is the handling a lot better?

read the thread on swaybars, be careful not to go overboard with the thickness of rear one..

Frebbles,

Pedders lowered springs and bilsteins, made it handle flatter although handled pretty good as standard.
The main thing I was after was highway stability, the front still feels a little loose, I need to play with the alignment settings a bit more.

yeah, i know about the risks of gong too big, but it just looks soooo small Smile i suppose i'm used to my old car (and it's handling)

how much for the bilsteins steve? (if you don't mind me asking)

apparently if you want a cheap alternative for short strut rears you can use ae92 inserts and space the bottoms...
