Lowered car legalities Wed, 29 September 2004 09:15 Go to next message
I was picked up in a petrol station for having suspension too low and a couple of other minor things.

The cop measured from the centre of the wheel to the lip of the guard and radio'd his buddy to find out the stock ride height of ae86s. The distance was 280mm, stock is 340mm... That was all he measured.

I thought the law was a required 100mm height from the road at the lowest point? Is there another part of this that involves room in the guard?

Call regency on 1300 882 247 and ask for vehicle standards.

ask them, because THEY are the ppl you're taking your car to, they are the ppl that are gonna knock it back.

the hight from the road is for body kitted cars, lowering it is measured from the centre of your tyres to the wheel arch.

I always thought it was the 100mm rule... none of this guard and center of wheel bullshit they're pulling!

I wonder what they'd do with mine, no-one would know what my cars stock height is Smile

Yeah I will be, was just curious about what I was actually defected for. Seems most people don't know about the 'eyebrow height' either. Thanks for that Steve.

i am kinda late in this thread, but in NSW there are 3 ways to measure the height.

1. 100mm from lowest point of car to the road,eg bodykit, exhaust, crossmembers

2. 600mm from centre of headlight to the road

3. 350mm from centre of wheel to guard

if they can't get you one way they will try and get you the others, but when i have been pulled over they have used the plastic breath-test tube to measure under the car
