hi all
i have just had a full engine rebuild with full forged internals and a high flowed ct20b turbo
i previously had a single plate 5 paddle ceramic clutch but it hasnt handled the power that well . i though it best to update the clutch before its all put back together
i made some enquires and a twin plate isnt going to fit inside the bellhousing of my box .
The hiperboost conroller brings boost on so savgave...i love it. that the clutch had started to slip .
my question is i have around 2400 lbs of clamping presssure now and made 190 kw to all fours im expecting over 200kw this time .
so how much furhter do i need to go . the clutch guy reckons that he need only change the actual clutch material to handle the extra power . but i have my doubts
any help appreciated

Well how much do you like your gearbox? If you are doing big launches then maybe you are better off with a slightly weak clutch???
On the other hand, the guy is partially correct...clamping pressure is one half of the equation, the other half being the friction co-efficient of the material of the clutch. You could try an alternative friction plate (?) material and see how you go but I'm not an expert!!!

You could contact a clutch manufacturer like http://www.exedy.com.au/ and have a word to them

hi, where did you get your engine rebuilt? or did you do it yourself?
I am currently looking to get mine done, but I am looking for a place that I can trust.

There are definately twin plate clutches available for the GT4 I'd be very interested in why it won't fit in your bell housing. Are you running anything funky in there like an internal slave cylinder or anything?

Thanks for your help
the clutch is a daiken .
im looking for twin plate clutch any ideas as to who makes them ?
The engine was built by a mate that is an ex wrc mechanic . he did it as a favour for $80 per hour he charges $230/ hour (because he can).so i wouldnt recommend him and wont normally work on non race cars
The box has been rebuilt .and strenghtned (please do not ask how much) just think of the WORST amount you can then triple it .
im sure it will prove worthwhile
I think I'll continue looking for a twin plate.

I'm using a heavy duty ceramic 5 puck clutch, and i've been told that it will handle up to 300kw at the fly(but they might be full shit), i'd love to hear what clutch you end up using.
BTW what psi are you running to get the 190kw?

cheers ill pm Justin
i was running 17 psi to get 191 kw But had lost compression in #3 down to 70 psi . So it would be fairly safe to say that 200 should be no worrries with rebuilt engine .
This was with factory ecu and turbo has efficiency range of 23- 28 psi .

OS Giken have twin plate clutches for the 3S... I think this is what Justen runs.
Daiken / Exedy also have good twin plate clutches.
