has anyone used the Heavy Duty Cushion Button Kit: TYK-7411HDCB from exedy ? we currently have the sports ceramic in erins car and i think its almost too agressive for day to day use.. has anyone had experiece with the cushiopned button units ?

been thinking about this, why on earth do you need a clutch plate so advanced (eg. button clutch) this organic clutch plate i use is handling the abuse i give it from the feral's gte and i see no need for anything beefier needed on a 4age.

That's because you don't have the instant torque of a boosted ZE...

I'll admit it's a little 'sudden', but I honestly prefer it to a standard clutch. I don't drive it day to day though.

considering Erin's car isnt a boosted gze but a humble ge (but still an awesome engine Erin Wink ) i see no need for any more than what i am running as a clutch kit. Smile
wouldnt the torque that comes on all of a sudden when the turbo spools be harder on the driveline than having it from near idle?

(sorry ben if i have read your post wrong, i just got out of bed). (eeep, i hope this clutch kit talk is for Erins car....)

The button clutch makes it more challenging to drive. Not that it isnt already challenging to drive...

And its for Toof's car, if it ever goes again Mad

yup the clutch is for my gze. we currently have the exedy ceramic in erins car and it is *fantastic* gives a realy good feel bits very hard and is great for giving it a good squirt in the twisties. although i think its almost too agressive but erin loves it.

the one thats currently in erin's is one of these but i could swear it is 4 paddle. works a treat too.
http://www.exedy.com.au/images/hdpic.jpg

my mates gtz levin with gze feels like its got something that grabs as hard but isnt quite as severe it feels like its got 8 or 9 paddles instead of the fairly harsh 3-5. after driving that i think its a good comprimise between wanting something that grabs really hard and something that is a little more driveable as i think with the gze and a clutch like erin's ill be smoking it up just trying to get out of the shed.

from the feel of the GTZ i think its something like this
http://www.exedy.com.au/images/CushionedButton.jpg

Quote:

The cushioned button line is our newest sports clutch line and is recommended for use in moderately tuned vehicles that are driven on a daily basis.

This product utilises the positive aspects of an extremely durable ceramic material which has the capacity to transmit increased engine torque while maintaining a relatively comfortable engagement feeling attributed to the unique process of attaching the ceramic material to the clutch plate segment or marcel.

To complement these unique clutch plates, our cushioned button clutch kits are also supplied with high performance clutch cover assemblies with increased clamp loads.

and *once* my car is going again it will be driven a little less too i suspect eventually turning into just a weekend toy.

It's a hell of a lot better since I ditched that sh1tty aluminium flywheel. (I used to be able to get it to slip with the 20v...)

4agte,

How was your trip and what is the weather like ?

Hope you settle in well, keep us up to date with the travels and your adventure Very Happy

the trip has been good so far im am in San Francisco now and its been ablot of fun to keep the costs down im staying in youth hostels which so far have been heaps of fun. ive bumped into another aussie and we hit the pubs yetserday met some girls bumped into some guy that invited us to a party at one of the clubs hosted by oakley sunglasses which was pretty cool all drinks paid for n stuff..

San Francisco is a fun city but very dirty and there are lots of poor/crazy people arround the place.

I tried to get out the racetrack yesterday but i got lost and allmost couldnt get back so i wont be visiting the san francisco school which is a shame.

So today im waiting for the shuttle bus to take me to toronto where it should be alot easier to get to the racetrack plus i have a bit more time there.

the weather in san fran has been awesome i went out on the harbour ferry saw alcatraz on the way which was cool if i had more time i would definatley visit it.

Cars here are pretty boaring unless you like 4wd's with 23" rims i have seen a few evo 8's running arround and some wrx sti's alot of ferrari's and the odd rx8 here and there the doge vipers are pretty cool tho.

anyways thats about it for the moment how is sydney?

Toof,
You were asking about the cushioned ceramic clutches. I bought one from NPC, and have been driving it for a couple of months now.
It has 8 little ceramic buttons on each side. And you can squish the clutches disc together a little bit even with your fingers, since its two thin metal disc with a 'spring' in the middle. I also put a 1750lb pressure plate on.

In short, this combination is similar to an organic clutch to drive, but more grippy, a bit grabbier on take off, but can be 'ridden' like a normal organic. It is harder to drive exactly as smoothly, but not hard to drive. It is fine in traffic etc and I highly recommend it!

Some guy told the ceramic chews flywheels though...have to wait and see for that.....

Cheers, Nick.

dunno why i'm posting this, seems kind of out of place but bugger it.

My cousin who has an aw11 with the beams motor was at the traffic lights yesterday and a pulsar sss full of drunks pulls up beside him and start bagging out his car calling it shit. My cousin points at there shitty pulsar and the driver says "it's not mine".

So what happened next was pretty cool my cousin took the opportunity to toss his Hungry jacks drink with ice into there open window just as the lights turn green, It's no surprise they couldn't dare keep up, but as a bonus a newish ford v8 ute gave him a go and got flogged! (From the same set of lights)

aw11 shit, pfff those dumb asses don't have a clue.

they definatley chew pressure plates i had to replace mine after about 20000km/s having said that it would probably have lasted alot longer but we had the gearbox out at the time so it was one of those cheaper to replace now rather than later things...

i have a 3 puck ceramic button and i have no issues with driving it arround town however i try not to slip it too much as i hear that wears them out quicker

4agte,

Sounds like fun, glad to hear its turning out well.

Got 2 new front wheel bearings put in the SC to get rid of that rumble..guess what......DID NOT FIX IT !!!! The mechanic was adament that was the prob but i seriously had my doubts..now what ???? Was very busy tonight but plan to jack the car up and have another good look either friday night or over the weekend...maybe feral can wave his magic wand over my car as well Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

think i will have a look at the crank pulley while i am there...thanks toof !!!!!!

Its very strange, it sounds a bit like a wheel bearing but they are not loose or getting too hot..just noisey, but it dissapears when you turn left, also its totally related to speed. its bearly noticable (over the exhaust etc) up till about 70, pretty loud by 90 and unbearable by 100 but only on the straight or right handers..goes away again on left handers..... Mad anysuggestions.....anyone ????

Ben,

Thanks for the comment, yep actually tried 4 thats right FOUR different sets Shocked Laughing Crying or Very Sad Mad , you would have thought that most people would have been happy after one set...........but not me.............i just love changing wheels, had them on the NA and they were fine so its definitely not the tyres.

I tried it under load and off throttle etc etc this morning coming in along the highway to work. Wasnt really paying attention to the speed while i was testing the on throttle in 5th gear.......may have got a bit carried away as the road was clear. As i went flying past the COP with the speed camera i looked at the TACO as my speedo is still not working and it was about 4 1/2 grand...........do the maths Embarassed WOOOOOPS

Doh!

My noise started when I replaced the full sick ultra low King springs which came with the car with standard springs. It might have been the ride height change, or the allignment chage which did it. The new tires fixed it though.

Perhaps fiddle with the camber?

All vadid points but there has been no changes and both cars are running the same wheel alignment and very happy with it !!! thanks to Phil Youl.

But to be fair i need a new set of tyres and maybe wheels to get a better idea.

Set 1 Race 15 x 7 with 205 50 15 Dunlop race tyres DO1Js NOISEY, Its just the way they are being a semi slick.

Set 2 Currently on the SC, stock tear drops with 18 year old potenzas fair tread but hard and out of round (no grip in the wet...ask 4agte,Missmr2 and toof Laughing )

Set 3 Currently on the NA 16x7 BLING (HEAVY) 2 good tyres 205 45 RE040s Very Happy 225 45 Yoko AVS old and hard...........excellent to drift Evil or Very Mad

Set 4 15 x 7 ET28 (more hit than elvis very UN round) with new nankangs

Anyhow I hope it gets a decent home that appreciates it's worth.
Hope to read about your return to the AW11 ranks in the near future.

well im back from cobar.. miss is in cobar Sad and i have two running twos Smile

i havent taken her out for a drive yet.. need to get a smaller charger belt which ill do tomorrow. but she sure sounds mean..

oh and kudos to feral on the most unorthadox method of removing a 4agze from an aw11..

on stands no more then 18" off the ground.. strip all accessories, strip the head, strip the sump, take the pistons out, hop *IN* the engine bay with the engine.. get me to unbolt it from the mount and gearbox then pick ip up and lower it down to the floor.

installation is reverse of removal Shocked Shocked Shocked
