Grinding sound, wheel bearings? Sat, 02 October 2004 07:30 Go to next message
Just trying to sort out the last of the problems before I get the GT4 on the road, when the steering is turned full or almost full lock, and the car is in motion, there is a kind of metal grinding noise. When travelling straight, or when the steering is only turned a small amount, there is no noise. I am thinking possibly the wheel bearings are stuffed? Could this be the cause?

On my st162 i had a knocking sound when at full lock going around corners.. mine were pretty bad though because it would do it going straight line too..

The cv joints u did, were they recoed? coz they could have been dodgy...

I thought my car had wheel bearings gone
Could be maybe something rubbing, possibly one of ur main suspension bushes are worn out quite a lot

Could even be ur brake dust cover....

Just in case u need wheel bearings i know a really cheap place... i'll speak to u on msn for their location...

Regards
Adrian

Adrian: Nah I'm sure it's not the cv's, it's a completely different sound, and only the boots were replaced, as far as I know the joints are ok.

I will check the brake dust cover tomorrow, I just thought of that before as well Smile

The noise I think has only started since I put the shafts and steering boots back in so maybe I either rooted the bearings by over tightening the hub nuts, or bent the brake dust covers. I'll check it out, and I'll get the name of that place from you also Smile
