Hey all,
Im only new to the whole world of Toyota Ownership. I recently purchased a KE55 79 Corolla with only 200,000km/s on it. My question is the motor in it is obviously the 4k motor 1290cc, my question is how easily are the 5k motors exchanged?. Also are the 5k Motors easy to come by?. Would it also be worth my while in exchanging these engines when mine dies?

just work the 4k you get a 3k head(preferably bigport or 3k-H) do some extensive porting in the exhaust valves and a reconditioning and hardend valve seats and then get a 25/65 grind cam with double valve springs, a nice set of tuned extractors and a 2" exhaust, also get a bigger carb to suit, the webber 32/36DGV is good but it should be jetted, also get a 5k 5spd box if your 55 doesnt have one and youl be sweet

5K or 7K is a dead easy swap (like, start to finish in a Saturday arvo), but they're not always easy to find, depends on your luck really.

Finding a 5K is the easier of the both. I think you'll be able to rego the 5K but the 7K will have to be ingineered. But if your really keen on one of these then start looking for Hiace, Liteace vans etc.
And as a side note the k50 g-box was also bolted to the 4K as well.
