Hey guys,
well after a trying weekend fighting with stuck tie rod ends, I finally got them replaced, but while replacing them I noticed the bush in the idler arm has been flogged out, the ball joint side of it is ok though.
So was wondering if anyone knows whether you can buy just the rubber (or urethane) bush for it.
Next I found the pitman arms ball joint was so loose it wasnt funny. For that one I figure I need to buy a new one. They arent really a servicable item are they.
Thanks.

Hi,
No they're not. Mine was just replaced a few weeks ago. The pitman was worn and getting dangerous, and, when it goes completely, you'll be outta control. I got new tie-rods, idler and pitman in the old girl and she steers beautifully now. You will need to buy a pitman arm, and better get yourself a new idler also.

Yeah I was thinking after I posted, i'd be better off putting a new idler arm in as well as the pitman arm after putting brand new tie rods ends in
Just buy changing the tie rod ends on the weekend it made a huge differenc to the steering. no where near as much wander.
Next quick question, if I change the pitman arm and idler arm, get a wheel alingment, does changing the front struts affect the wheel alignment? ( I wouldnt think so unless the strut is currently bent, but just want to throw the question out there)
Thanks

If changing to a different strut, then yes, it can change camber and consequently toe... if using struts same as original there will be no difference.

There can be a difference if your unsing complete second hand struts that have springs etc already on them as the springs and inserts could be worn more on one set and there for make the struts seem to be different lengths and different camber. If you doing the front up, then change inner and out tie rod ends, idler and pitman arm and your struts and then get a wheel alighmewnt, but for the extra $50 id be doing the ball joints anyway.

Yes I am now leaning towards ball joints as well.
The struts in the car now arent too bad I think, the ones in my wrecking car are "younger".
I will try and get the other struts in quickly to test and if buggered will just bite the bullet and get new ones.
Thanks for all the info guys, much appreciated.

Ok got a new pitman and idler arm,
Quick question, a friend mentioned that on a car he had to cahnge the pitman arm on, there was a special tool needed to remove from the steering box? Is this the same with the TA22?
I have a puller for the balljoint end (tie rod end puller I used)
So sat morning I know what I am doing

It's a different size and a bitch without the tool, but easy as with it.
