Old School Soarer information ??

Hi,
I'm looking at importing an old school Soarer - 1989 model with a 1G-GTE engine. I beleive the engine is a Straight 6, 2.0 litre, twin turbo.
Can anyone guide me to some more information on these cars ? I've done a Google seach but didn't get much back.
Are these engines any good ? How about parts and servicing in Australia ?
http://www.j-spec.com.au/list/index.php?ID=0516
There's a link to the car I'm talking about.
Cheers & Thanks in Advance.

nice car.. but the 1g gte isnt torquey enough to pull along the heavy body very fast
engine makes 160kw at engine stock.. cant remember torque but its not much
car weighs around 1500kg i beleive
try and get your hands on a 7m gte'd mz20soarer

Im sure you know this, but be ready for HUGE insurance premiums.
The car is very nice, a mate of mine has one, ive drove it a bit, they go very well, it is a qiuck car, but if u can find one with the 7mgte (i think thats the engine) get that.
But in any case that 1g-gte is very good and the car is great. Parts are expencive, but most things imported are.

7MGTE expect to pay another 2 grand for the car, that one on Jspec's list is a very nice example but you have to think when those photos were taken of it, thats all...
1GGTE is becoming easier and easier to find parts for, i.e. i got a timing belt from toyota last week for $38, they have 154kw and 279nm and they weigh 1430kg, with some decent bolt ons such as full exhaust, filter and some boost seeing around 210 at the fly wheel shouldnt be too dificult.
I am yet to have mine on the road long enough to have it dynoed but with my mods i rekcon i could get around 140 at the wheels without too many hassles

I may be looking at buying a car in the next 6 months and have thought about one of these soarers, how much does insurance cost and how much fuel due they use.

My mate pays $650 a year, full comprehensive for his 88(89?) GZ20. He's 20, but we do live in Perth It uses probably about 12l/100km on average.

When I had mine (2 years ago) I was 19 and I got quoted $6500 per year for full comp from Suncorp! And no I didn't bother.
I don't know what you are talking about the fuel economy as mine got about 10Km/L when I was just cruising around. If you boot it, it is more like 6KM/L.
Not a bad car, but I wouldn't be buying one for outright performance.

why even bother with full comp....the car is only worth 6-7 grand at the absolute maximum
