Help!!! removing crank shaft pulley

ok i'm trying to take the crank shaft pulley off but how do you undo that bolt? i left it in gear with the handbrake on and as i turn it the car just keeps crawling forward up onto the bricks.
in the book it says remover the flywheel inspection plate and put a screw driver between the flywheel and starter motor but i then turn to the section on "flywheel inspection" and it says to see the flywheel you have to either remove the engine or transmission.
now what the hell can i do to get this F**ker of a bolt un done as the car is all apart and i need to get it undone soon.

Use more bricks, put a pole over the breaker bar, put the handbreak on harder, try to undo it with sudden jerks, spray a bit of WD on it & let it soak, give the head of the bolt a few taps with a hammer.......... that's all the easy options I can think of.

yeah tried all of that got through to my friends who's a mechanic and he told me to try all those, still didn't get the prick off, was standing in the engine bay jumping up and down on the bloody breaker bar and still nothing, going to go to his place and get the oxy on it then the rattle gun sometimes you just have to hate cars.

Try to get a "boa constricter" tool. Its like an oil filter wrench, but instead of a woven fabric type material for the gripping surface, it has a length of high strength rubber that grips the pulley effectively. It has a large plastic handle and its a pretty inexpensive and easy to get tool. Works a treat too.

rattle gun is definately the easiest option....
another method is to put a steel pipe over your ratchet handle, rest it against the ground on the passenger side of the vehicle, and crank the motor over for only half a second or so. The starter motor is powerful enough to crack that first 1/2 a turn that is such a bastard to undo with your hands/feet etc
As mentioned before, give the head of the bolt a few good whacks with a hammer to dislodge any corrosion on the threads first.
Cheers

be very wary of what sort of socket you use when using a big MO FO breaker bar. when i tried to get mine off i had about 3-4 ft of extention on a socket and leaned on it so hard that it broke the socket in 3 places. rattle gun is definately the way to go. then the next fun bit is getting the pulley off

i did at one stage pull the coil off and crank the motor, all that did was flatten my battery
and i have a harmonic balancer puller so taking it off shouldn't be too much of a problem "i hope"
but we will loosen the bolt off and then i have to drive half an hour home but he reckons it will be alright so i just hope he knows what his talking about

Be very careful of the crank motor over method as this can do damage to the teeth of either a) the starter motor or worse b) the gear on the flywheel.
Ben in this exact same deal, took us about 2.5 hours to get the bolt out. Fortunately the pulley came right off without the need to resort to a pulley puller tool.
Broke some sockets in the process. This is what we did.
1. soaked the thing in yield (industrial strength release fluid)
2. used a six sided socket (makes a hug difference)
3. used a four foot bit of tubing over the socket handle for greater leverage
4. Took off the starter motor and mad up steel wedge on the grinder that jammed in the ring gear of the fly wheel perfectly (careful not to damage or bend sandwich plate)
5. Two guys stopping the flywheel from rotating and one guy busting his frekle on the bar
6. With the radiator out we also used an impact driver to try and 'shock' the bolt into releasing as well as swapping back to the bar and socket.
It was a bitch, so when we put it all back together we used assembly lube so we don't get stuck in the same position any time soon.
Hope this helps.

well got the rattle gun on it and still would not budge, then heated it up with an oxy, when it was glowing red we put the rattle gun on it and bang, came off straight away easy as piss
