One of my mates is going away next year and is going to sell his AE82 hatch. Its got one spec of rust on the hacth but other then that, its in perfect condition. Needs two pieces of interior plastic. as well which I have.
Only mods include mandrel bent exhaust, lowered springs and momo mags. thats it. The steering wheel is in perfect condition but the gear knob has been changed. Also has immobiliser.
I think he wants either $5000 or $6000 for it.
What do you guys think?
p.s. will sell my rough AE82 hatch for $3500. Engine is good but interior and exterior rough.

that seems a bit pricey but not sure what has been done to them.
look in the for sale to get a rough guide then compare to yours and add or minus the diufference

I reckon he could get $5000 for his, $6k is probably a bit pricey. Got mine in perfect condition and no rust with 64000km for $5000cash (dont think they knew what they're worth)

this is for an AE82 not AE92 so i say you got ripped bug time

uve obviously dont little to no research on this as i see it.
why waist ur money on a mint car ir ur only gona do a conversion to it?
if u bought one of the 500-800 twincams in the for sale section at the moment, ud have a good 4000$ left over to customize ur interior and give it a respray. sounds much better than buying this 5000$ twincam and doing a conversion.

The reason to buy a mint car is to firstly use as my every day driver for the rest of next year. Then I wont need to respray or fix the body as most of the cheaper ones have huge body probs, dont want to spend the money on the body.

I don't mean to burst your bubble here but $5000 is too much for that car, even if it is mint. Mint ones can be had for about $3500 - $4000 if you're willing to shop around.
You're also planning to pay someone to do a gze conversion. Adding it all up you're looking at:
$5000 car
$2500 gze halfcut
$1500 labor/parts/wiring
= $9000
And that's just to get the gze installed and running. Might be better just to save a little more and get an already converted ae82.

Good point. Maybe hold out on that conversion then. Just want to cruise in style thats all. But maybe keep it for a few years then get conversion, money isnt an issue really. I get the car I want to exactly how I want it.
The thing is that at least I know what Im buying. Where as buying from someone you dont know there are always hidden defects etc.... Not willing to take that risk.

or get a cheaper ae82 for $500-2000, but the predone conversion sounds better
personaly a mint (stock) ae82 twincam would be only worth 3-4k.... ae92's 5-6k
this is after weeks of reseach of trying to buy one, then i end up getting a ae95 for 3300 for a decent one... onlike some other people selling it for 4-6k in much much shitty condition

I can see what you're getting at about hidden defects etc. But the only way you're going to make sure that doesn't happen is if you do the job yourself and do it properly.
Even reputable workshops can do stupid things to your car.

i would not pay more than 3500 for a twin cam with the big port 86kw motor unless it was a REALLY good example with some nice mods ie cams flywheel extractors computer fuel system and suspention

the gze is an old motor, plenty of these older style engines are coming to Aus casue they cant use them in Japan or where ever due to car taxes.
