Have a Corona Sept'84 Sedan(dead stock), can I run her on ULP once LRP is removed from sale? If only the timing is affected, what is the new setting?

Shouldn't need the 98 octane stuff for a 2S-C, normal premium unleaded should be fine.

As with all Japanese engines built since the mid 70's, the 2S-C does not require leaded fuel. I recommend you stop using that nasty LRP stuff right away!

yeh on my instruction manual for my 85 corona which covers both the 22re and 2sc it states that they need an octane rating of 97 which would suggest noraml premium is out of the question. I run either Lrp or optimax in my car but Lrp is only 96Ron thus i shouldn't even use it.
There is a definite power difference using optimax though. I could run my car on normal unleaded due to it being fitted with a knock sensor but then I would have no power and it would be shit anyway.

Go the 98ron fuel it costs a little more but it is better for the engine in terms of detergents that clean the engine and you will get better fuel economy.

97 octane fuel wasn't even available in this country until a few years ago, so I wouldn't take too much notice of that instruction manual!

Premium grade super

And what magical service station sells that? None of the ones I've frequented have Super/LRP above 96RON.

Yup, leaded fuel was 96RON in the 80's. This was after they'd seriously reduced the lead content though; in the early 70's super was well over 100RON thanks to massive amounts of lead, and that's why Ford could get away with 11:1 compression in the GTHO's (and that's with a cast iron wedge head). Shocked The greenies killed the fun over the next decade though.

Maybe get some AVGAS for the old beast?

those gt's might have had 11:1, but the charger still shagged em down the 1/4 at 10:1 Smile
