1g-gte. Why do I always BAD read jokes about them?

Never owned or been in anything powered by a 1G series engine.
But from time to time, I have read tongue in cheeck jokes to more serious criticisms of these engines lack of performance.
Why?
Anyone care to elaborate on the truth, and what within its technical build makes it as such (if in truth it is not that powerful/potential for power)....... well say in comparison to another 2ltr 6 cylinder engine... well like the RB20 for names-sake.
Really have been curious about this for a long time.

There isn't anything wrong with them at all. The problem stems from the cars they come in being too tubby for the engine. Put them in a lighter chassis and they are great.

What they said..
In a GA70 Supra or GZ## Soarer they're possibly not the best performers simply due to the weight of the engine..
Put one into an RA23 or AE86 however (which would probably be a couple of hundred kgs or more lighter) and you've got one swift vehicle..
The engines can be quite fuel efficient (ask Nark) when driven sensibly and still perform quite nicely when you get into them.. Nothing wrong with them at all.

Hi,
It begs the question... why make a 2ltr 6cyl turbo engine when Toyota could of stuck a snail on an 18RG?

Hehe, drive a G-series engine and an R series engine back to back and you'll have answered your own question.
6-cylinder sound, 6-cylinder smoothness, 6-cylinder credibility, 2ltr tax laws

Hi,
Sadly I don't have a 1G powered vehicle to compare. However, there are a lot of posts about 1G's that need to be fixed or have some other problem. I know it's prolly 'cos they're driven hard a lot, but I don't see as many posts regarding 18RGs (or 2TGs) being broken so often.
I'm not saying anything bad about the 1G, it's just an observation. Hell, I'd love to have an RA23 with a 1GGTE, but then again, I'd also love to have an RA23 with a blown 18RG.
Anyone wanna lend me one of each for a week to drive and compare?

Yeah there is alot of people with problems with 1G's but I think that's more to do with the fact that import engines are treated like shit in their homeland, so a most problems are getting them right in the first place. Also, when comparing thm to 18RG's and the like, try and work out how many people (on this forum at least) have a 1G compared to an 18RG, it'd be like 3-1 at least.
They're a great engine but they are getting old, their time is almost up.
Tim.

you hear heaps of problems because there are so many 1g owners out there !! (that have done a coversion into an earlier model celica !!)
if u ask around, i think the 1g into [anything] is the most popular conversion on this site !
