Use of FCD Tue, 05 October 2004 13:25 Go to next message
My 1JZ Cressida is nearly ready to hit the road. I will be runnig 3" hi-flow exhaust, dumps, Simota airpod, Walbro 255, Malpassi rising rate fuel reg, hiperboost controller (without wastegate control). I will only be running about 5-7psi of boost, and future plans to get the hiperboost wastegate controller.
I just wanted to get an idea of what situations would call for the use of a fuel cut defender. Are they used to take away speed limiters and boost limits or do they do more than that?
I read in a post that was dated about a year ago when Celicamad was close to releasing his boost controller, and it said something about his system having a built in FCD? Can anyone clarify on this please? Very Happy

And just another question, how can you use the 2JZ map sensors to get by boost cuts? To my understadning there good for when your only planning on using <18psi as this is the 2JZ map sensors limit?

Cheers in advance

You use a FCD if you plan to increase the boost beyond the factory ECU's fuel cut limit. 5-7psi is nowhere near that so you don't need one. Smile

The stock turbo's can handle 15psi, how far can I wind the boost up until I would need a FCD? For daily driving I will only be using no more than 7psi, because when I end up getting celicamad's wastegate control, Ive heard that anymore than 7psi just creates a whole lot of wheelspin, boost comes on REALLY quick depending on how you have the wastegate setup of course Smile

you wont have a choice to go as low as 7 psi
with exhaust and cooler and all the lowest ur gonna get is 11 without controller
mine with controller on most open setting hits 13-14 psi..
so any low boost you want to have for street will depend on ur foot

the way it works is it blocks off air going to the wastegate actuator which keeps the boost at whatever level it is.. all the boost controller will do is block more of that to raise the boost.. so u can set it at the lowest possible level(leave the controller completely open) and u will get around 13 psi
just drive around with a light foot like everyone else
