And then nothing!
It uses an electric motor to turn a knob sticking out the top of the shocks, which in turn changes the valving of the shocks. That's it.

By changing the valving of the shocks, the rebound and compression damping characteristics are changedm, thereby making them more compliant (softer) or harder
Pretty simple really
