The object you describe with '3 pipes' sounds kinda like the mechanical fuel pump from a 4A-C AE82 corolla.
Do you have a picture of the device, or a clear idea on what it's actualy supposed to do?
I've heard of many devices that are supposed to cut fuel consumption, but none have ever come close to haveing the engine properl tuned for economy, and sensible driving.
More info would be a help....

I remember today tonight did a story a while back on a device that was designed to use about 30% less fuel when installed. i thought it was pretty dumb coz if your car is properly tuned and u drive it sensibly and you think it still uses to much fuel THEN GET A FREAKIN DAEWOO MATIZ!!!
But yeh it was an inline fuel regulator/restrictor which basically just leaned out the fuel mixture. But on road tests showed they didn't really work. I suspect the ECU in the cars they tested i think it was falcoon, commonwhore and Camry just adjusted everything to suit the leaner fuel.
This probably has nothing to do with what you are talking about but yeh. I don't actually remember what the device looked like so i cant say if it had the 3 pipes

only thing i know with 3 pipes and one is a fuel return is a mechanical fuel pump where the un-needed fuel just gets sent back to the tank, there is nothing you can really do to make your car use less fuel, only real option is a tune, make sure the carb settings are all correct, the correct spark plugs and gap size as well as timing advance,
there wouldn't be anything you can just connect to the motor to stop it from using fuel as thats going to reduce power and therefor you will have to push te gas pedal down even more so it won't work out,
i got my car dyno tunned, result was an increase in power and therefor i get an extra 80K's out of a tank.
i think you would have to be dreaming if you think there is a device you can connect into the fuel line to save on fuel.
only way to save fuel is to get the engine running to a point where its making the most power out of every drop of fuel and thats where you save on fuel consumption

I'd agree fully with Gin5ie, there is no add on which will reduce fuel consumption. These are all marketing gimiks with no real value. You would be much better off spending the money on getting it running correctly in the first place.
If you follow the steps that Gin5ie suggested, then you should see results. Keeps the car well maintained as well, Change the air and fuel filters when recomended by the manufacturer.
dorkin, from memory the charcole canister has more then three pipes. It also quiet removed from the fuel delivery system (even tho it does have a pipe to the tank) It just catches vapors and the like to reduce polution.
