1jz issues.. please help Thu, 07 October 2004 09:56 Go to next message
Hi.. my 1jz has been being a lousy pos lately.
Ive posted up a thread about heat of the day lowering performance which i then thought it was cause my throttle cable wasnt on right(wasnt pulling to full throttle) but turns out not to be the case.

what its doing is boosting slower, only building to 12 psi(instead of 14)
still has plenty of power in 1st and 2nd(but anyhting over 6 psi induces wheel spin in both of those)
normally in 3rd and 4th at 60 km/h i can put my foot down and it will pick up boost REALLY fast.. but now it builds very slowly!
pickup in any gear is compromised.

1st of all i fixed the throttle butterfly so it actually pulls to full throttle
ive checked for boost leaks but cant find any.
going to test both turbo's tomorrow.
Im running a hiperboost controller with wastegate control.. it sorta feels like the car before i put the wastegate control in.. but even worse

any idea's people?.. thanks

Is the engine overheating? All I can add is check every single vacuum line. Are you using a stock ECU?

Could be a boost leak, check everything to do with intercooler, piping etc.

Cracked exhaust housing.

Or *maybe* an issue with the wastegate flap/actuator.

Maybe you have lost a couple of blades off the exhaust turbine?

im really hoping its a minor boost leak as i cant afford anything major..
ill check all ic piping and everything tomorrow
and then if it comes to it.. im calling in sick for netx week and a half.. ill pull the inlet off and take the turbo's out(im hoping it doesent come to that)
ive taken battery off tonight to reset the ecu...
im not 100% sure but it seemed to happen around the time i replaced my spark plugs
at the same time the car had shit loads more pickup.. but then i started to notice it doing this
how long has it taken people to pull all inlet piping off and turbo's etc

took about an hour to get the inlet piping and intercooler piping off the front turbo. Didn't take the back pipes off. I would say the first time taking the front turbo off, probably took another 1.5hours but now only about half an hour Smile

I can only agree with what others have said as I don't have any ideas Smile Hope it is a easy fix for you. You just better hope that you don't get the same luck as me! Razz
