ISCV Workings - ANSWERS Fri, 08 October 2004 02:10 Go to next message
How does a non-stepper 3 wire ISCV work?

I know you have 12volts to the centre, but what about the other 2 wires?

Does the ECU just ground one wire, thus openening the ISCV fully?
And then ground the other wire, thus closing the ISCV fully?

Is it this simple?
Or am I missing something?

I know steppers are much more intricate, but I don't need to know how they work.

Thanks

if you are talkign abotu the rotary solenoid type (page 6), i have one of those and will be makingup a circuit to have in-car idle speed adjustment.

is just a 250Hz circuit which alternately grounds one coil or the other.. can't be that hard Wink (tho i have little electronic design idea Very Happy )

failing that, a good old swagelok valve will be used.

Well, the whole point of this was to see if I could run my stepper ISCV with a PWM output, which I have found out to my dismay that I can't

Looks like I will have to get a 4AGZE ISCV and make up some bracket thingy to suit it.

I'd imagine it'd be possible to get PWM -> stepper to work, but for the circuitry you'd need it'd probably be easier to change to a rotary solenoid. Could be a fun project though, and leave you with the factory idle control unit.
