MA70 Tail Light Warning, I think Fri, 08 October 2004 23:53 Go to next message
G'day members...

Would anybody be able to let me know what the orange light showing a picture of a car with what would seem it's rear lights on and also the two orange, squarish lights are on above the wheels on the picture of the car. (This is the MA70 with digital dash by the way).

I assumed that the lights represented a busted tail light as it used to come on during rain as the lens does not seal properly and was most likely shorting out a lamp.

Eventually it blew a lamp altogether that I changed but the warning light is still present. Confused

Is this a tail light warning light or can it also represent another fault?

Thanks,
Matt Cool

It means the tailights are blown (or brake lights, or bad earth in the tailights). Check the online TSRM for MA70 as I a little sketchy as to if it means anything else. I blew 1 rear brake light, then the rest followed in quick sucession. Have you checked the operation of all tailights yet?

yep what lumpy suggested.
I had the same problem, and most of the lightbulb connections for the brake lights were corroded and shorting out, i cleaned all the bulb sockets with a file and installed new bulbs (old ones were burnt out), that fixed it, and the warning light dissapeared.

I also have the digital dash, When my brake lights were buggered i only got the mini car icon and not the the two orange, squarish lights on above the wheels, i heard they might indicate the headlights are blown/inoperative, so check all your lights work.

I had somebody check the brake lights yesterday for me and they said they all lit up correctly. I've checked the reverse lights and indicators front and rear as well as parker lights and anything else with a bulb really and they all seem to be fine.
I will however check the condition of the sockets to see if that will rectify the fault. Might even chuck in all new globes for good measure.

Thanks for your help. Smile I'll let ya's know the result.

Matt

um..i dont know if this helps or if u mean the same symbol as me, but my bro has a ma70 with digi dash and the light means ur brake pads are running low i think.....cos it started when the wear indicators started making noise and even after changing the pads light stayed on till got toyota guys to reset it

im not quiet sure though was a while ago and he dealt with it not me....ill ask him next time i see him

Hmmm, that's also quite interesting, but it still doesn't help that both sets of warning light came on at the same time. Like when it was intermitent I could press the brake and both sets came on. That's why I thought they stood for the same thing (the tail lights). I'll investigate the brake as well. Thanks for your help.

The rear does "hoot" like I've run over an owl or something along those lines. I've oiled the shock shafts and it's reduced it a bit since then.

sure enough, that same warning light has started coming on with my car again. only every now and again. So i'm thinking a dodgy connection with the globe sockets.

I don't think the those warning lights are related to suspension or brake pad wear.

another thing to check is a little black electronic box that can cuase the warning light to go off. It's located near the rear lights. It's unlikey to screw up, but i've heard other people find dry solder joints or moisture getting in and setting off the warning light.

After sitting round and wasting some time, I finally got around to seeing what the possible cause of all this was and found that water had made it's way into the light failure box. The IC's are corroded and some tracks damaged and I can't get the parts to replace them... sooo, this brings me to my next question,

WHO'S GOT A LIGHT FAILURE BOX???

I'm also advertising in the "parts wanted" as well.

Thanks for your help everyone as well.
