engineer cert transfer Sun, 29 September 2002 02:26 Go to next message
i was wondering if you bought a car(or have one) that is say engineered for a 308(i know its not a toyota bear with me), would i need to get it re-engineered if i put a 1uz in it or would the certifcate cover the 1uz coz its smaller in capacity ie. 5 litres to 4 litres.BUT it does have more power output than the stock 308. does this pose a problem.

any thoughts

Yes. You'll have to get another engineers report done.

AFAIK whenever you do an engine transplant you need an engineers report, except when you're transplanting an engine that was originally available in your vehicle (eg 308 in a 6-cylinder Commodore).

Hey All,

Sorry to change the subject, but does that mean that i don't need a certificate for an engine change from a 5M-E to a 6M-GE or 7M-GE for my MA-61?

Cheers

The MA61 was never available with a 6M or 7M, so you'll probably have to get it engineered. I say "probably" because you live in Victoria and the rules there are different to Qld and NSW!

Norbie,

So I can only put a 5M-GE with no problems with Engineering Certificates as well?

You should check with your local transport authority, I have no idea about the regulations in Victoria. It's best to speak to an expert on these matters.

Yeah, best to check as its different in every state. Fitting a 5MGE in a MA61 here in Perth just means phoning up the transport department and informing them of the new number. Could require a pit inspection somewhere else though...
