3S GTE Air Flow Meter Sat, 09 October 2004 11:17 Go to next message
Hey guys..
im having a little trouble with my MR2 3S-GTE choking when i rev it really hard off idle.. If i try to take it easy on the throttle, it revs to about 2000rmp then chokes again.. I have a suspicion this might be the air flow meter.. if so, can any other meters be used in place of my unit??

You can only use the GT4/MR2 Airflow meters. Apparently the RX7 series 4 can be used, but not perfect.

I have a spare one if your interested.

I Don't know yet, see how you go. Check your diagnostic codes.

Alright, it 'should' be the same as the GT4.

Have a look in your engine bay, and find the diagnostic port. Once you have, short out the T and the E1 connections. Now go and turn you car to 'ON' but don't start the car. If there are no codes, it will flash steadily. If there are codes, take down the pulses, and there values.

EDIT: the Check Engine light will flash....

That sounds more like a small spilt in the inlet pipe that goes between the front of the turbo to the afm, and when the motor "rocks" the split is being opened.
