1G-GTE CT12 upgrade? Sun, 10 October 2004 02:57 Go to next message
Just wondering if the CT20 will bolt onto the CT12 manifold? or what other turbo will bolt onto the CT12 manifold of my 1g-gte? i figured since the compressor wheel blew off one of the turbs i should just upgrade them rather than fix them....

otherwise, how do i go about fixing the stuffed compressor wheel? and what do i need to replace to stop the oil leaks? i can't be bothered having them reconditioned, so if i can fix them with a new wheel and gaskets i will just upgrade them with something, but what?

cheers

Just buy a pair of 2nd hand CT12As and put them in.

Cheaper and less hassle.

ok, i will try. I can get CT20's for $75 each from a wrecker. Also i just found out that the HG has decided to part with me, so whats involved on doing a HG on the 1g-gte? is there anything else that i should replace while head is off?

Cheers

are you sure?

the dump pipe flange and possibly the exhaust manifold flange appear to be different:

before buying two used CT20's -i'd check that they'll actually bolt up (e.g. right flanges) and that your budget also allows for new/other dump pipes and possibly manifold as well.

... i dunno about HG - but my limited experience with alloy-head motors is that you may have to have repair (welding) work done on the head if there is corrosion between water jacket and elsewhere. But if it;'s just the gasket, then probably doing nothing apart form cleaning valve-faces up would probably suffice.

As per recent threads about 1G performance upgrades, there's a lot more to be gained from upgrades outside the engine (turbo, exhaut, computer, injectors, etc)

Oops! Sorry, for some reason, my brain stopped working and I thought the 1Gs has CT12As...

No, they're not going to fit.
