Paint Shop Recommendation? Mon, 11 October 2004 03:50 Go to next message
Can anyone recommend a body shop / smash repair, I’m planning to get my 86 resprayed. Previous owner was quoted $3700, I was quoted $9000 !!!!!!!!!! at my local smash repair (they claim it will be perfect and guaranteed with warranty & includes engine bay).

How much is reasonable? Any suggestions or anyone know someone who can do it for a good price??

includes engine bay!

well that is the difference in price I reckon

I am thinking of getting my car resprayed (if I ever do) in tassie

labour is like half what is is here in sydney and you can get better quality jobs for less overall price

Hi,

Ballpark price for a full respray, sans engine-bay, is $5000-$7000. Top dollar gets you the best job, including the clear overcoat for protection. Those are the quotes I got from three different shops in west Sydney. If you want a cheap job that won't last long, or have orange-peel finish, then it's cheaper. If you want concourse type paint job, then expect to fork over about $20,000.

Engine bay adds a lot to the price 'cos they've gotta drop the engine and take as much shit outta the bay and do a fair bit of masking - all that labour is what's costing you.
