They are roughly the same width tire to tire as the TA22, also have the same stud pattern

They are just a little bigger than a T series diff, I would guess hard to find gears for as well.
You'd be better to find a F series out of an MX23 which will be close as well.

Not that I'm aware of... unless you have a Liteace van.
As far as wanting to put it in a TA/RA celica, it wouldn't be worth the trouble..

The main issue is, can you get a LSD for a E series diff? Not that I know of. People needing a big diff in a Celica/Corolla often jump to the G series HiLux diff, with LSD.

They are a small step up from a T series and thats about it. I put one in my 28 by accident and it has put up with 150rwkw fine. I have done a little drag racing on street tyres with it and had no problem. A day at wakefield and it is screaming though. But then again I would have killed any open centre that day.
If your planning an upgrade, I wouldn't bother with an E series. Unless you looking at a fairly powerful engine, I would use a Ta22 T-series diff and find a sprinter LSD for it. Otherwise you will need to find a fairly narrow/stronger diff or get one cut down. The 22's are pretty narrow in the bum.

Nup, gatta cut all the old mounts off, fabricate some new ones to fit the celica and weld them on.
When I get hold of an F series, I will be doing the same with that. They are stronger again than the E series and have a good selection of LSD's available.
There is no easy upgrade that I am aware of, so unless you are handy with an angle grinder and welder, it's gonna cost you some cash. I think the early 22's had a smaller diff than the later ones. Check your compliance plate for a transaxle code and it should tell you what type of diff is in it.
