does anyone know if a celica t50 is exactly the same as an ae86 t50. is it a straight hook up to a 4age or 4ac or does it require extensive modding? thanks.

no they are not.
you need either an ae86, or ae71 t50.
what u can do is if u have a fcked ae86 t50 is chase down a t18 t50 and change over the bellhousings and a couple of things.

Celica T50 - 20 spline input & output shaft, forward shifter position & bellhousing to suit T series engine.
T18 T50 - 20 spline input & output shafts, rear shifter position & bellhousing to suit T series engine.
Spinter T50 - 22 spline input & output shafts, rear shifter position & bellhousing to suit A series engine.
This info is how I understand it to be, I may be corrected.
Cheers Chris

Chris: I think that is correct, except I think all of them have the same input shaft, just the late model T50 (AE86) has a different output spline.

I am currently changing boxes at the moment and the input on the Ae86 is definitly 22 spline aswell.

I'm guessing that would mean that the early one is also 22 spline on the input shaft?
I've just swapped my Celica T50 for an AE86 T50 (onto a 16V 4AGE), and both bolted in (with the Celica T50 obviously requiring a different bellhousing), I only had to change the tailshaft...
