question!
i know that a cap in series with a speaker acts as a high pass filter... but how?
and what exactly would a cap in parallel with a speaker do?

A capacitor would be a "short" at high frequency.

it's the property of cap's, at DC voltage a cap is open circuit, at high frequency's a cap just acts as a short circuit.

and I should know the answer to your other question, but I don't

yeah, i kinda figured out how the cap works in series with the speaker... just nutted it out based on what i know about caps...
but WTF happens in parallel???
yikes!

ahh, got it - it makes a low pass filter!!
at low freq, the the parallel circuit is cloased, driving the low freq signal through the speaker. at higher freq, the cap facilitates current through the parallel circuit, and bypasses the speaker
thanks y'all
