MA61 engineering? Tue, 12 October 2004 23:14 Go to next message
hey guys, was wondering where the point is that i would have to get an engineer certificate for an engine transplant in an MA61.
will 6MGE and / or 7MGE be needing one, or do they come under the loop holes of capacity and model etc ( no, im not exactly sure what the rules are regarding this one )
thanks for any info.

Depends what state you are in.
In some states the 6MGE won't require it.
Some states it will.

All states will require engineering on the 7MGE swap though.

In SA, Engineering is req'd for a 7M-GTE swap, but don't know about the 7M-GE.

I dare say it wouldn't be a problem, but can't understand why a 7M-GE swap would need engineering, but a 6M-GE wouldn't ? Bothe 3 litre 6's ?

Ring the RTA or equivalent and ask.

The 6MGE in some states, will come under the 'it was available in Japan as an option' rule. (as the motors look the same)

But you won't get away with that with a 7MGE.
Its just a loophole that you may be able to get around.

nsw doesnt require 7mge engineering...

its within 15% capacity of the 5me
power increase is at the discretion of the blue/brown slip assessor.
no custom fabrication is required
it has no turbo

you simply need to rock up to a blue/brown slip place, and ask for a change of records inspection and form

thanks for the replies guys.
i know that i could have rang VICROADS, but i thought someone would be able to give me an answer rather than wait in the local office for 2 hours, or be on hold on the phone for that amount of time.
im pretty sure that vic is the same nsw, so thanks.
obviously i will have to check before i carry out anything, but it was more 'out of curiousity'.
cheers.
