Speedo correction... Wed, 13 October 2004 03:23 Go to next message
My GA61's speedo has been out since I got it, never really bothered me since it says i'm going faster than I am so I never really speed Razz

But it has gotten worse, after finishing the engine swap I noticed that instead of reading about 5km/h over, it reads a good 10km/h over (like, when i'm going 70km/h in reality, my speedo says i'm going 80km/h!).

Is there a fix for this? I tested this out on the freeway at around 120km/h, and my speedo was reading 130km/h Evil or Very Mad

My corona is out by like 7% due to the fact that I have smaller tyres on than stock, there is no way I'm putting ithink either 75 or 85 profiloe tyres on my cra. I just watch my speed but if there is a cheap way to correct the problem I wouldnt mind knowing.

I was out with genkin in his 86 last night, and he said that his speedo was out too. Apparently it's been like that ever since he pulled off the needles to replace the fuel gauge?

Maybe it can be fixed by putting the needle on in a more correct position?

It's probably not the cheapest option, but the only real accurate way of adjusting the speedo is with a speed ratio box. Basically it's a unit that sits with alongside your gearbox and electronically adjusts your speed. This is provided you have an electronic speedo. Confused

jaycar has a kit coming out in the next few months called a digital speedo corrector, designed to modify and correct the digital speedo signal to read the correct speed. Its simple and cheap as i built the prototype, but wont be on shelves for a few months.

ALthough if you have a cable speedo, you're screwed.

the speedo ratio box is ok if yr speedo is proportiuonally out

like if its 10km out at 60 and 20 km out at 120
and 30 km out at 180

if the needles have been pulled off to fit wanky blue facia
or something similar

then a ratio box wont help

u need to reposition the needle is correct spot

so remove glass on dash
remove needle
drive at 100 with car beside u
then try fit needle in correct spot
its a pain to do

another thing you have to watch out for is tension in the spring

when you remove needles the pin moves a bit more cause of tension needed to return the needle when working properly

its prob cheaper to send it to instrument place and get it done

if you changed tyres or diff ration the the speedo ratio box is good for that
