Suggestions/options please Thu, 14 October 2004 23:58 Go to next message
Hi again guys & girls

Well, just a few hours after asking about the electronic dizzy, the 3T-C in my TE72 T-18 has finally decided to spit the dummy after 425,000 clicks. Problem is, with all the different engines available to swap into it, I'm not sure what to put in it. I'm leaning towards something that's EFI, not sure about a turbocharged one though.

The grunter doesn't have to do anything heavy duty like burnouts or standing 1/4's, it just has to fire first time everytime when I turn the key and give me reasonable fuel economy. Oh, one other thing, I'm not contemplating changing the g/b, diff, clutch etc, just the donk.

Any/all suggestions/advice welcome.

Thanks in advance

Rod

Rod, there are a few options:

Another 3T which would be cheap, but you know how "high performance" they are.

A 3TGTE, easy to do, but you sound lke you don't want to go turbo.

2TG - Twin cam and goes remarkably hard with a screaming top end, although you lose some low down pull compared to the 3T. Can get this fuel injected too. This is a VERY simple swap and would be my recommendation.

Change the crossmember to an AE71 member and bolt in a 4AGE, or 4AGZE. Changing this would involve a bit of messing around, but is pretty simple.

Or a whole host of other crazy ideas.

Good luck
Hen
