Does anyone know if there is a difference in the starter motor on a gen2 and gen3 sw20 turbo. I am thinking of buying a Gen3 but engine hasn't got a starter motor, but wrecker said he will get one(prob a camry or something). What are they worth?
Also i have heard that if there is a sticker(100,000km on the timing cover of engine it has done over 100,000km as this is when the timing belt was changed. Is this true? Here is the sticker on mine.

I dunno about the sticker, meaning + 100K Km's but you are certainly supposed to change the timing belt as part of the 100K Km's service, it's a nasty and expensive proceedure, but if this engine is out of a car I'd guess it's a much cheaper proceedure

Well apparently this engine has only done 50K kms, but it is dirty. I don't think there is any movement in the Turbo. Just concerned that it may have done over 100K(due to the sticker) not 50K as i am being told. BTW engine is still in a rear cut.
How much for second hand starter, anyone?

I had a look at my Gen2 today while I was doing my oil change...I do have a sticker on my Timing Belt cover that says something like "Ensure you change belt every 100,00Km's" maybe the japanese either side of the 100,000 Km's says that so your engine could well have only done 50,000 Km's

only this sticker you talk of is placed on by the shop that has done the timing belt change if it was always service by toyota on the top timming cover you would have a sticker saying changed at ??
if there is no sticker well it could be that there is only 50k on it or the fact that the shop or person was to lazy to put a sticker on it, or its just not been done. the belt costs bearly anything just when u pull the motor out change it, and while you are there change the water pump. If you worried that you may be getting a shitty motor, Just compression test the motor if you can, being a half cut there is no reason why you can't.

My sticker is a Japanese sticker(you need to copy and paste this into your browser to see it i think). http://www32.brinkster.com/mozzei/images/100kstick er.jpg
Well i hope it's only done 50K, they say they can't start a Rear cut for me, but i said you can atleast turn it over in which case i can compression test it. He will only give me 1 month warranty also. They're a bit dodgy.
I can't find a shop that sells a compreesion gauge extension piece, to get into the spark plug hole. If i could do one would be much more comfortable with the purchase. What is an alright compression reading for 3sgte Gen3?
ToKeN-MR2
Gen3 are very hard to find, this is the only one i've seen. I've even been looking for a Gen3 car to see if i should be doing the conversion or just buy the car, but can't find one. Problem with doing a conversion on an Oz delivered is insurance goes through the roof even if standard like mine.
