RHD JZA70 Sat, 16 October 2004 18:01 Go to next message
I swapped a 1JZ into my 89 MA70

I was wondering if there was ever any RHD JZA70s because I trying to find the gauge cluster from JZA70 for the higher redline on the tach. Its just for looks but I can only find LHD gauge clusters

any tips where i can find a RHD gauge cluster or if they even exsist?

yes they do exist becuase that's how they are in Japan.

America is one of the only country's that would get them in LHD.

easiest place to find one if you have them there, is a half cut (clip Smile) importer. And see if you can buy just the dash.

If worst comes to worst, you could try australian importers but the jza70 half cuts are getting a bit rare from what I have seen.

We're RHD over here. If you want a LHD JZA70 dash, you're out of luck; the JZA70 was only sold in Japan, ie RHD.

You might be able to disassemble the cluster & swap over the tacho face & motor.
Is the speedo driven electronically or by cable.
You may find that Toyota have put the same cluster in both cars regardless of where it went to (except for your "miles" Razz )

the speedo is cable driven

i think i might do that

I also emailed www.speedhut.com and asked them if they can change the redline on the whiteface gauges they sell

If the speedo is cable driven, there may be an issue as the speedo & tacho will have been swapped over from the RHD to LHD.

If they are identical size though, they still might be able to be swapped.

Just swapping the guage face was be the easiest though.

It was easy for me to swap from ma70 analouge Tach face to jza70 face (with the 8k redline) - We even kept the same ma70 needle so it matched everything else! You can change the backing plate over and swap the "daughter" board from the electonics of the jza70 tach to the ma70 one. You only have to swap the small board, not the whole mechanism. It's a pain to pull out, but looks pretty good when done.

I went from RHD to RHD though - still, I'm not sure why the LHD drive setup would be any different??

Cheers,
Caelum
