MR-2's... how many versions? Sun, 17 October 2004 15:18 Go to next message
I got a little curious about this when I saw an MR-2 on the way home from work last week. It's the first one I've seen that was Supercharged.

Did these come out in a variety of trims, like N/A, turbo and S/C?

There are 3

1984 - 1989 AW11 - 1.6L NA or 1.6L SC (4AGE/4AGZE)

1990 - 2000? SW20 - 2.0L NA or 2.0L Turbo (3SGE/3SGTE)

2000 - Present ZZW30 - 1.8L NA only (1ZZ-FE)

I must admit I like the way the yanks put the 1MZ-FE into the SW20.
Toyota should've done this.
If I had the extra dosh I'd be doing this.

What about a 3vz-fe in an aw11, Paul Woods.
Or a Northstar V8 in an aw11, Bill Strong

Personally I like the 3sgte in the aw11 Smiley =

Thanks heaps for the informative replies... it seems this unit was a first-gen (AW11) import, because it looked like it had all-original stickering from Toyota on it. I'd say this beastie was a rare one to come by, I haven't seen one before or since.

This one was definitely distinctive as it had unique air inlet vents in the rear sides, something I've not seen with other MR-2's. Wish I had a pic to explain it better... Confused

I like the way that the handbrake is still on the same side in the US versino, must be wierd to have to reach over the gear stick to get at it. Man I want that power, or at least a 3S-GTE MR2.
