I just finished my airbox for my car. Then changed my oil, went to start the car, turned it on reds and my thermo fans cranked up. The temp gauge is reaqding dead cold. Whats going on, they are suppose to come on at 90 degrees.
Have I earthed something or what???

It is a very high possibilty that you have earthed something out yes.
This is a safety precaution set by the manfaturer, to help prevent overheating in an open circuit, ground or extremely high resistance situation of the sensor to ecu circuit.
Is it possible that you have accidently unplugged something, ripped out some wiring etc when you were fiddling around with your car?

Is your air con on? This turns on the fans no matter cold the engine is.

If the plug on the thermo switch is off and not making contact the fans will stay on until it's plugged back into the thermo switch near the alternator like celica_john said.

yep but if the connection is good the sensor could be faulty.

Sounds like a fail safe system in case the sensor screws up, less chance of cooking the engine.

I've got a sensor from a wrecker before that kept the thermo fans switched off so maybe its the luck of the draw.

Yeah it's safe design for if the wiring goes bad, fans on all the time. But if the thermo sensor fails, fans never come on like my mums camry, poor engine was cooking it seld for months with no cooling.
It seems the thermo sensor makes a conductive connection to the earth/negative once the coolant reaches a certain temprature, and the fans come on and turn themselvs off again when they get the coolant temprature down.
I took my mums thermo sensor out, cleaned it and put it back in, aswell as getting all the air out of the cooling system.
It's working properly again.
