ta22 seat belts...

I know this has been asked before and I have searched, but didn't really find much of an answer...
I want to fit retractables to my ta22, and was thinking I could buy something suitable from rare spares to bolt (pretty much) straight in. That way I would know it would be new and safe!
Only problem is I'm not sure what would be suitable for the task and was wondering if anyone has installed a new set and knows what to buy? Or if anyone's used a set out of another car? If so which model exactly provides a suitable donor?
I'm in nsw and not sure of the deal with replacing seat belts which is another reason why I'd prefer for the brand spanking new option! Places like autobarn etc seem to only stock retractables made to mount at 90 degrees... not much good to me.
Any help appreciated!

i have done exactly what your asking about fade.
get retratables from superchap auto for the equivilant age corolla i think mine were late 70's to early 80's.
the only trick is you have to retain the original hanger from the ceiling otherwise they cut into your neck.
all you do is unwind the whole thing .... unclip the belt from the retractor .... feed it thru the hand and clip back into the retractor.
now the tricky thing is you have to hold the retractor the whole time otherwise getting the right tension is a biatch afterwards.
lemmme know coz i can take picks... i got all this week off if you wanna check em out also.
Cheers

TA-022: where did you mount the seat belt? cause i got retractable seart belts and they mount where the old non retractables were, but at the sme time iv seen some where they mount just above the seat like in new cars (does that make sense?)

mine that were in the car were retratable already. but to pass blue slip i had to replace them becoz they were frayed.
the retractor mounts are in the rear footwell whilst the hanger goes directly above where the b pillar would be. the end of the seat belt goes on the same mount as the retractor or next to it ... i cant quite remember.
i can only assum none retractables would have used the same mounting points.
Cheers

hi fade-e,
No i havent had the money to get the seatbelts yet. I was thinking of doing the same thing as you, when I had the money was going to drive down to the one near me here and see if they can show me how to measure up and make sure it fits.
TA-022, I went to the local supercheap here and they didnt carry seatbelts. Might go to a larger one and see. There was some brand at Autopro starting with K i think, but in the book it didnt have a listing for old celicas.
Never enough time and money to do the things we want to our cars I reckon. Damn work!!!!

yeah i cant remember the brand but i do remember like u said floppy old celicas werent listed.
basically any old corolla one has a one bolt mount.
this bolts to a plate already in the celica.
the plate then too the chasis via two bolts....one each side.
moine is a black retractor with a clear / opaque side with 3 or 4 little coloured tabs inside.
hope this helps.
Cheers
Nathan
PS ill try to get a brand name off of them in the morning. plus they were about $60 each belt.

on a quick note.
i did this seat belt change before going for my blue slip.
meaning this method is legal .... i made a point of asking for him to check the mounting out.
