1G-GE Hunting at idle Tue, 19 October 2004 02:27 Go to next message
Hey guys, got a 1G-GE in RA40 that hunts at idle once warm. does it with clutch in or out, in gear or nuetral. if you just touch the accelerator (pretty sensitive) and put a fraction of load on it stops and by load i'm talking less than 100-200rpm it goes away. The hunt is around 400rpm from it's highest to lowest and can get the engine pretty rough when it drop revs in the hunt. Any ideas before i take it to an injection mob???

Cheers Jarvis Confused

Have you got power to the ISCV?

I had similar troubles, in the end it was the ISCV not getting any juice.

Idle Speed Control Valve its on the throttle body/inlet on a 4a. Im guessing it would be in a simular spot on your 1g

Idle should be around 800rpm I think.

If the ISCV isnt getting power, and is letting air in, the idle can be screwed.

Also clean the ISCV with some carby cleaner, it gets gummed up and doesn't move properly

Auto or manual?

Most Toyota's are 750-800 in neutral, aircon off.
650 in gear, aircon off
800-850 in neutral, aircon on.

Thats something to work with.
