Sounds like a pretty cool car.
You got some pics to show off??
Nothing beats an old car retro-fitted with a newer donk. Pure class! I can't wait to get my conversion happening.

Very very cool... I've been waiting for someone to do this conversion in an MA61! As above, post some pics if you can. If you don't have access to a digital camera I can help you out there (I'm from Brisbane too).

Ive always loved the idea of a 1uzfe powered ma61....
Its bound to be my next project after the 1jz is finished....

My advice would be to work on the brakes/handling/rims/rubber situation all at once, and with some planning - upgrade all of these as MUCH as possible, THEN work the engine over

Sweeeeet.
Looks like it was always meant to be there !!!
Looks like a possible future conversion when I have had enough of the 7M
Agree with teh earlier sentiments of doing the brakes/tyres/handling before searching for more grunt. The weight distribution before and after would be interesting as the 1UZ wiould be heaps lighter than the 7M-GTE ?
With the R154 box in there, it would be a bulletproof package !!!

The spark plugs are under the ribbed black panel with toyota on it.
Much easier to get to than an old OHV V8.

Oh sorry... I thought it was like the Holden V8s where they are hard to change close to the wall . I am thinking of doing a 1UZ conversion on the MA61 but my brother is wanting me to go 2JZ... I still love my 5M-E anyway.

Holy shit that's tough. Apart from the classy "Blue Bling" the installation looks factory. Lighter, tougher, newer, a damn sight more powerful, have you found any negatives so far? BTW, an Eaton style supercharger sitting in the valley would top it off nicely ( Wouldn't help the traction problem too much though).

could you give a good idea of the dimensions, and don't say 700mm cube( damn you norbie!) did you have any clearance troubles, like exhaust? what half-cut did you get? i'm going to get mine for my mx22 mark 2 coupe soon(next 6 months definately). was mounting a bitch or easy as pie?

Exhaust is only clearance issue, but that differs from car to car.
Motor has to come forward by 1" to clear sump (front sump on ma61, I'm not sure what an mx22 uses)
Half cut doesnt really matter, you can get sumps elsewhere
Most of your questions are answered in the UZX73 thread.

Very Nice! I'm in the middle of doing the same thing thanks to Peewee's help. Since it looks like it's connected, I am curious where the cruise control actuator is? Thats been kinda challenging me how to hook up. We US spec supras had ours back by the brake booster.
Again VERY NICE

Supra's Cruise Control Actuator hold the pedal, not the butterfly.
So nothing changes with an engine conversion, providing you have enough vacuum to keep the throttle open.

Can you please enlighten me on the combination of engine mounts / brackets / crossmember you used here ?
And what if any mods to the gearbox crossmember you needed to do ?
Thanks,

Sorry, I meant where the actuator itself is, here in the states our's sits right where the windshield washer tank is. And cable runs from it to the throttle. Just curious where it sits.
By the way, photo shop found my pics and I should have them tomorrow

As for the tailshaft, my cressida one hasn't been lengthened by an inch yet.

It's funny this thread should re-appear... I came across this car a few weekends ago on the M1 motorway (between Brisbane and the Gold Coast for those interstate), which I happened to be travelling on late on a Saturday night... locals will have some idea what I was doing there.
Anyway, to cut a long story short I came saw a black Mk2 with a distinct V8 exhaust note and the plates 50UPD, but I completely forgot the dude had posted here until I saw this thread just now!
And for the record, 1UZ-FE vs 2JZ-GTE was a fairly one-sided battle, although the V8 torque did get a car length on me before the turbos kicked in.

MA61 engine bays are pretty long... I reckon a pair of turbos could be squeezed in up front, wouldn't be easy though.

I Have fitted a few 1UZ's now and 2 of these were in MA61's
and although I have not fitted turbo's it looks real easy as if the battery was moved to the boot you have room for some pretty big turbo's in the front corners of the engine bay.
May be I will have to try with my UZX-073
anyway good conversion they go good don't they
MATT.
P.S the weight balance on the eng report is 52%F 48%R hows that
