Ra40 + 1JZ-GTE

Hi guys, am looking for any concrete info on 1J's into Ra40's.
Now before this turns into a slagging match over ra40's or 1G alternatives, i have done a search and each thread seems to turn into that.
What i'm after is anyone who has any info or advice that is reliable or concrete about the conversion. anything at all. seeing how the car only weighs 1100kgs my plan is a stock 1J, intercooler, manual w58 box and lsd rear end and I already have the w58. I don't want to go the 1g-gte route and this will be my first conversion but one that will last. I know if i put a 1g-gte in it i'll only end up putting a 1J in later. Handling etc isn't of major concern and i don't think it make that much difference with a good suspension setup as it will be mainly a weekend warrior.
thanks for any info
Cheers
Jarvis n
P.s for anyone looking for info later there is a mediocre article in ZOOM Issue 43, 1J into Ra40 by RPM, good for pictures but....????

Yeah i know how you feel i have been tossing this conversion up for ages and am slowly upgrading the car with whatever money i can scrounge up before the engine upgrade itself (diff, brakes fuel, chassis strength etc.).
Although i am interested, my intrest lies in a 1uz conversion i think they are around the same weight and are more compact.
but whatever pops up it would be an interesting read.

Actually, a 1UZFE weighs less, it's about the same as a 1GGTE. As for this conversion, from memory there was something about the twin-turbo engine that I think fouled on the steering, and the only person who I was speaking about it to was considering a vvti 1JZGTE for that very reason.

are you sure about the steering??? isn't the RA40 setup the same as the RA28/23 setup?? cos if it is..my mate who owns an RA23 with a big single turbo has no problem..ohh wait i just answerd my own question..custom turbo manifold etc so it clears..don't mind me!... belive me it's frightfully fast!!!

my guesstimation is that you will need in excess of $15000 to do this conversion.

soz dude but your wrong about the rack and pinion
both TT and VVTi will go in without having to do a rack and pinion conversion, the TT u have to shave some meat off the rear turbo hosuing and the VVti well that fits sweet as AND its even easy to get to the oil filter for a service.
Daniel the CD is in the mail along with the alarm key and little rubber boot that goes on the terminal sticking out of the diagnosis box.
as for the rest get some MS65 crown hubs peugeot discs hilux calipers and RT132 struts and u have your front end done
then hilux diff in rear
unfortunately after that the weak point will be your gearbox
Daniel i have a chromoly 1JZ ---> W58 flywheel for sale (if glenn [blacksupra] doesnt want it) as i said when u were looking to buy the car, 1JZ vvti was the plan before i pulled the plug...
if u want, gimmie a call sometime ill step u through EVERYthing i picked up researching this conversion.
have a good one

YEAH WELL I ALREADY GOT A ENGINEER TO SAY YES TO THE CONVERT. NATURALLY HE WANTS UPGRADED BRAKES, DIFF AND AS FOR SUSPENSION HE SAID STICK SOME STIFFER SPRING IN AND SET YOU CAMBER ETC RIGHT AND HE'D BE HAPPY!! HE EVEN SAID THAT FOR HIM SCOLLOPING THE FIREWALL WASN'T A BIG DEAL AND IF IT LOOKED FACTORY HE'D OK IT. I DIDN'T THINK THE STEERING ENTERED INTO IT BUT THANKS FOR YOUR THOUGHTS ANYHOW. IT'S REALLY THE LITTLE THINGS THAT ARE HELPFUL, YOU KNOW THE BITS THAT DON'T QUITE FIT HERE OR ARE AT THE WRONG ANGLE THERE. KEEP SLINGING THE INFO MY WAY AS YOU GET IT GUYS.
HEY ROB IF SUPRAMAN DOES BUY THAT FLYWHEEL LET US KNOW PLUS WHATS THE GO WITH THAT CROSSMEMBER YOU SPOKE OF??? WHAT DID IT COME OUT OF AND WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT IT FROM STANDARD????

glenn are u gonna contact me about the fly bra? PM me ill give u my number.
skidman owned a RA60 which has rack and pinion and is different from RA40
Dan the crossmember is from a TT132 corona. it is a rear sloping xmember that will allow u to run a front sump VVti 1JZ out of a JZX100 chaser.
im only 99% sure it will fit at the moment but a bit of measuring should show us if it will or not.
cheers
