Hi Guys
I have a 91 Hilux 2.4 carby Petrol and its slow and guzzles fuel. I want to swap it for something a bit better. I was thinking of a 22r-e if I can find one or a 22r-te mainly cos I know they fit and won't be too much work.
But I would like a nice twin cam 20valve engine if it fits.
So my questions is
A)does any one Know where to get a 22r-e or 22r-te motor with ecu loom etc.
B) what other motor will fix into a hilux with minimal effort. I.e. engine mounts flywheel/bellhousing to gearbox
Thanks for your time
Anthony.

22RE you should be able to get out of a RT141 corona Avante, or RA65 celica but they would be pre 90's..i suppose you could just rip all the injection stuff off one of the older motors and bolt it onto your newer one in place of the carby..
22RTE no such thing my friend..that is a hybrid motor..fuel injected..and a custom turbo setup, they are getting around..but not toyota genuine..

common fitment to hiluxs are 1G's..2.0 litre 24valve twincam straight 6..comes in NA..twin-turbo..and supercharged..they pretty much bolt in..not very much work required..heaps and heaps of power and torque! the twin turbo motor is suprizingly flexible for a 2.0 litre!

1991? that should mean there is a 22R-C in there at the moment?
if it is so, then u would not have to change the whole engine, just use the EFI gear off a 22R-E, save from having to do an entire engine swap.
by the way converting to EFI will help fuel consumption but not as much as converting the existing engine to gas.

yeah 22re still likes to drink alot, in my rona which is a much lighter vehicle it drinks a minmum of 15l per 100km and mostly around 18 but thats mostly city driving, but best I reckon would be around say 13 on the freeway.

rt142 is a corona I have one fitted with a 22re. Dont know any wreckers though as when I needed parts just got the off the forum. The wreckesr around where I live are way to expensive wanted $165 for a bumper, which I got for 70 with an indiactor as well.
You could do a search for toyota wreckers at yellowpages.com.au. Other than that cant help you
