3sfe camry engine differences Thu, 21 October 2004 09:35 Go to next message
Hey guys,

I've got a decked out 06/90 SV21 camry wagon with a standard (but dead) 3sfe and planning to change with a standard import 3sfe...

But i read in an injection book there are 2 kinds of 3sfe motors for the SV21: 89-90 and 90-91. Does anyone know the difference between the two? Is it that 1 has oxygen sensor and 1 doesnt? (Mine doesnt). There were pictures in the book and they do look *slightly* different, but unexplainable over the phone.

Does anyone know of an easy way to tell them apart?

PS does anyone have a 3sfe or any sv21 parts for sale?

Cheers

No 3S-FE, but I might consider selling you a lowish km Turbo diesel motor that'll bolt straight in.

bolt in turbo diesel motor for a Camry??? What sort of motor is that?

camrolla: Are you sure yours doesn't have an oxygen sensor? As far as I know all 3SFE's have them? My SV21 is an 87 and it has one...

Thanks demuire, but there is definately not one on the exhaust manifold... maybe they hid it somewhere?? I think one series has it the other doesnt

If yours has it maybe i can work out which mine is off some pictures i have - can you tell me something?

Is your relay block located on the passenger side or the drivers side of the battery?

Thanx dude

Blah blah dribble blah blah

The changes between those years were primarily for emissions. Someone correct me also but I think there was a change from AFM to MAP in these years also?

Interestingly, in the US there was a recall for engine sludging of these and 5sfe engines after these pollution changes.

If you just want a cheap "make it work again, consider a 5sfe, would be later model, and some, albeit small, drivability improvement.
