how long does the 1g-gte take to warm up - tranny problems

guys how lond does the 1g-gte motor take to warm up reason im asking is mine takes about 5 min atleast for the temp bar to move from cold to one and then never goes any further unless i start drivng the car even then a good 10-15 minutes drive and only then it will hit the half way mark (operating temp)
reason im asking is cause my transmission is doing this funny thing where it wont change int 4th gear when cold car will rev past 2500 rpm at 60k speed and only change at 71 km/hr then the rpm drps down to 1500 or so , then again when the car slows down again the gear jumps down and the rpm jumps up to 2500 its really annoying
anyone know what the problem

A lot of auto trannies won't change into top gear until it's warm. My VL won't, and a frined with a SV21 says the destruction book says to drive <80 till it warms up to avoid over revving.
might just be life...(change to a manual )

Try turning the overdrive off and see what happens. I had a similar problem for a little while, but it seemed to sort itself out..
Have you tried replacing your thermostat?, sounds like it's stuck open,...

Who knows,.. Sounds strange,..
Change the Thermostat, let the car warm up for 10mins before you drive, and you shouldn't have any problems..

yeah warming up for 10 minutes still dont do nothing to it , ca still does the same thing untill it gets t the halfway mark then everythings normal and shifts nicely , lolllllllll
its worse in winter , although now it doesnt take as much driving fr it to get warmed up and then it shifts like nothing ever happened

I had the same problem with my original motor dude, it doesnt change into fourth gear unless you hit over 70kph, i just changed the thermostat so it actually gets to operating temperature, all good now
changing the thermostat takes about 10 minutes i would do it if I were you, assuming its the original thermo that came with the car its probably 16 years old and seized like a mofo

get an 82deg one for a 4age.
or better yet pull it out and take it to your local parts shop.
dont forget the rubber seal for it too

dont take the seal anywhere if its in good condition, they are hard to find in the right size, if its good leave it somewhere safe so you dont lose it.
The seals are a good idea tho as they mean the thermo housing doesnt need a gasket unlike some other cars

why wont you listen to me
go to any parts shop and buy a 4a-ge one off a twin cam corrolla..
they are in abundance everywhere.
you can also select your temp too...
either 82 or 88 deg is what you require.

get the 82 Degree one, summer is coming up and you would rather that it kicked in at a cooler temp, trust me on that
Mine is an 82 Degree one, I think, and it warms up fine and runs excellently, for instance it was about 26-28 degrees yesterday and I went for a cruise down to the bay and was stuck in traffic for a decent hour and TEMP didnt even jump one bar, which is handy

You might as well change coolant, ive got to do mine very soon, so let me know what you use and how it goes for you, to be honest im just thinking of getting some of that toyota coolant, even tho a little pricey it must be fairly decent if they use it in all thier services.

yeah im def getting the pink/red coloured stuff to go in the car its got some special thing in it thats good for the toyota motors secifically
im just gonna flush out thwe green stuff fully as if u mix them they are not good cause they react with each other and is bad for the engine so make sure u get all the green one out even from the heater core
