18r-c bolt ons and decent places to get parts in sydney?

Hello people,
I'm looking to get a little more power out of my 18r-c RA40. Decent 18R-G engines seem to be on the hard to find list nowadays and I know that changing to the 18r-g engine will most probably be the way to go.... but unless I can find a decent one that will bolt straight in ie. no need to rebuild I'm going to have to settle for other mods.
So basically I'm looking at changing a few things in this order on the 18r-c engine..
1) Webber Carby 32/36 DGEV 2) Exhaust piping 3) Exhaust manifold/extractors 4) Cams
Now for the questions...
Would this be the way to go for 18r-c bolt on mods or is there a better way to go at it? What should I be looking for regarding the extractors & exhaust eg. extractor configuration & piping diameter? What should I be looking for regarding cams... I just want more low to midrange urge? Does anybody know of a place where I buy ant fit these parts especially the cams and webber carby? Any other place to get decent performance parts in sydney eg. brake pads, air filters etc?
I'm basically at a loss in finding places in sydney that sell decent performance parts... so please any help would be excellent.

There are plenty of options that will give much better results than a fiddled-with 18R-C. An engine conversion is the most obvious option - after all, you can't polish a turd. Well you can try, but it's going to cost you.
Don't expect to find "bolt-on" parts for an 18R-C - it's not a performance engine, so no-one sells performance bits for it. You're looking at lots of custom work if you want a fast 18R-C I'm afraid.

Hi Norbie,
Thanks for the reply... I don't want to get an engine conversion that would need an engineers certificate.... to much money and hassle, not to mention insurance... Would love to go a 3T,1J,1G turbo's if I could.
Yep the 18r-c is a turd..... My main aim is to find a 18r-g but finding one in decent condition (not requiring a rebuild) is getting pretty hard nowadays... If you can find me one at a good price..... I'd go that way.
The only custom work I'd expect to be done is the exhaust piping and extractors and the cam. The Webber can just bolt on with a little bit of fiddling so I'm not worried. The custom work on the extractors and piping shouldn't cost much as it is only small diameter stuff.... and the can shouldn't cost much to regrind..
I'm only looking for a little bit more power... preferably low end and mid range.. and not a crazy fast 18r-c.
I'm still wanting to know of any decent places to shop in sydney?

I agree with Norbie. The 18RC can maybe be made decent, but it wont be anything more than a gemy beater. Ive had extractors on my 18Rc, and it has made it a lil bit better. I had plans on a weber until money and um... other considerations popped up. That and the fact that it isnt running now.
So in short, get a 180 dollar set of extractors and a 50 dollar carb and save for a decent engine. 1G is the way to go here
Cheers

4-2-1 extractors will best suit your need for low to midrange torque. Mine just had a 2 inch exhaust and made a very poor 30KW at the (15 inch) wheels.

Thanks for the reply's so far guys...
So far I'm looking at:
Webber Carby 32/36 DGEV 4-2-1 Headers 2" exhaust
As for cams?.. Is it worth the trouble??
Anybody know of a good place in sydney for the carby?.. I have tried to do a search for a sydney distributor for webber and have come up with nothing...
Planning to get the header and exhaust done at Liverpool exhaust after I find a webber.. hopefully for cheap... they will probably think I'm crazy but ... who cares... .

extractors you can get thru repco for the 18r just dont forget lots of heat proof paint and header wrap!
lots of improvement can be made on the intake side of things on the 18r-c twin SU's or custom 4 into one XF throttle body with LPG and it should get up and go never got around to trying that but the stock inlet manifold is very crap,
thay defiently respond well to LPG as anyone that went in my little silver bullet will remember,
other then going twin cam you could just throw a turbo on it cost of rebuilding a twincam to the cost of puting a turbo on would be on par, say and with the cast iron head and some good pistons/rods could probably stuff some serious air in the bitch
Aim for low revs more torque tho as high revs is just asking for a dead chain to come out and visit you!
Would be "DIFFERENT" to see a killer 18r-ct
I would only suggest the above if you really dont want a 1g-ge
there was some place is SA earlyer in the year selling 18r-c piston's + rings for $2.50 a pop!

You can get extractors for the 18R-C???
Can you get some for the 21R-C too???? How much are they? Would they be less than $200?

I have an 18RC in my RA21. Would any of the 18RG parts fit on the 18RC?

18R-G head, pistons, timing case and timing chain will fit on your 18R-C. But then it'd be an 18R-G. Things like 18R-G manifolds won't fit unless you use an RG head.
