im thinking of putting a spin turn nob in my TA22, i have an idea of using a threaded button that you just wind down ot engage it(just like pressing the release button). has anyone got one or any other designs, ive seen ones that just remove the spring but i they warn that the handbrake can suddenly release when parked on steep hills so im not doing it that way.

Without taking the spring out there is not much point.
Easiest thing to use that I've heard is the pull knob in the top of the back seats to fold the seats forward (dunno which car though).
If you are switched on enough to need/want a 'spin-turn knob' (haha, I'm gonna call someone that!) then you should be switched on enough to make sure your handbrake is properly engaged & the gearbox is in gear on the occasions you park on steep hills.
The average dodgy motorist wouldn't have the vaguest idea what's happening when they pull the handbrake lever (or emergency brake as I've heard it called! ) & that's why they put a really tight spring in there, so if the levers up, the brakes engaged.
You'd have to think about it to get it wrong.

i always hold the button down when using the handbrake to drift but occasionally it locks because the button has to be pushed inside the lever to release it .i was thinking of having a floating thread with the button attached to it so it can be screwed all the way in to hold the button down during drift sessions and simply unscrew it when finished to have the handbrake like standard. so that if anyone else drives my car (ie sisters.) theres no quirks i have to notify them of and hope they remember.
i can supply my design by email if anyone is interested.

like has been already said, just grab the knob from the top of the backseat ( the one used to lay it flat ) unscrew the standard button, remove the spring, and replace with the newly aqquired seat knob....
this works really well, as i changed my handbrake to have a drift button ( spin turn knob ) pretty much the day i got my t18 and have had no problems with it so far...
as for the handbrake dis-engaging while parked on a hill, the only reason it would do so is if it were not applied properly in the first place, the handbrake itself was fucked to start with, or if something inside hits the knob with a fair amount of force!
and if your still worried about your pride and joy rolling down the street, park reasonably close to the curb, put the car in first, engage the handbrake, and turn your wheels to the curb so if it does try to roll away it will need alot of force and speed to do so...

I don't know about you guys, but if I want to get rid of the button on the handbrake (say for a motorkhana day), I can just unscrew the stock 'button', take out the spring, and it works fine....
Sure it doesn't stay locked on when you park, so either put the spring back in and screw the end button on, or leave it in gear....
am I missing something?
Cheers
